Bangla Culture and Heritage Collation Program
The Bengali Culture and Heritage Preservation Program is a long-term, continuous, and inclusive initiative whose main objective is the digital preservation and public accessibility of the diverse culture, history, folk knowledge, and heritage of Bengali-speaking regions. The term Bengali-speaking regions does not refer solely to Bangladesh and the Indian states of West Bengal-Tripura-Assam, but also includes the cultural heritage of the Bengali diaspora spread across various parts of the world. Through this program, elements such as the historical artifacts, folk tales, regional cultures, festivals, food habits, dance, and music of these regions are presented on open knowledge platforms for preservation, allowing them to become part of the global open knowledge platform. The uniqueness of this program is not limited to mere information collection or publication. Rather, it is a process of generating social and cultural awareness. The program brings people to the realization that their language and culture are not just historical or emotional objects, but can become a crucial part of global knowledge practice and cultural dialogue. It is simultaneously a means of forming cultural self-identity and a preserved heritage for future generations.
Bangla Wikimedia, where Wikimedia Bangladesh, West Bengal Wikimedia user group, and other informal communities and partners are working together to make this program a success. The goals of this program are being implemented by adding information, images, videos, oral history, and language-based content to various Wikimedia projects such as Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikisource. It is an example of cross-border and inter-communal cooperation, which strives to give international recognition to the Bengali language and culture.
Wiki Loves Bangla
Wiki Loves Bangla or Banglar Preme Wiki is an annual international photography competition. This photo competition will be held yearly on a different theme as part of Bangla Culture and Heritage Collation Program. The public takes photos depicting Bangla culture and heritage worldwide, uploads those to Wikimedia Commons, and then can be used in Wikipedia and elsewhere. The goal is to make the Bangla culture and heritage flourish to the worldwide public. It will be held every year in December and is organised worldwide by Wikimedia communities. This event will be held in December every year.
Bengali Wikisource Proofreading Correction Competition
