Montserrat

Source Serif Pro

(Internationalisation)

When communicating as a Wikimedia affiliate, we recommend using Montserrat as the primary headline typeface. Montserrat looks good set big and bold. This makes for a punchy message! Source Serif is easier to read in long blocks of text and looks very nice as a body copy typeface.

We like to use a minimum number of sizes and weights at once. Using uniform typefaces and hierarchies is an effective way to strengthen brand recall. However, a limited number of typefaces does not need to restrict creative expression. Here are some examples of visual variety within a consistent typographic system:

Changing the colour of a word is a simple method to create emphasis and incorporate hierarchy without too much font variation. Highlighting “human” in the phrase underscores the most important part of the message.

Treating select fonts with simple shapes, holding devices and textures helps assign a mood to the creative and can express a particular style or art direction.

Adding dynamic elements can enhance the storytelling capacity of copy. Borrowing from Wikipedia’s diff interface completes the story strategically by selectively displaying and revealing information.
