In association with Goa University's Shenoi Goembab School Of Languages and Literature, Marathi Discipline and University Library, CIS-A2K organised a two-day workshop in Goa University on 18, 19 August 2023. The theme of the workshop was - To create free knowledge on Wikimedia projects about the Freedom fighters in Goa, Monuments and heritage places related to freedom struggle on the occasion of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The workshop started with an awareness session on free knowledge Wikimedia projects. Total 60 students and faculty members participated in this session. Total 32 students actively participated in the two day workshop.

Topics covered in the workshop[edit]

  1. Awareness about digital knowledge in Marathi, Open knowledge resources and Wikimedia projects.
  2. Training of students in documentation and uploading on Wikimedia projects in the form of text, photos, videos and books.
  3. To explain the History of Wiki Movement, Pillars of Wikipedia.
  4. To train the participants in basic editing skills in Wikipedia.
  5. To explore the ways to find reliable & verifiable references.
  6. To explain - Copyright, Commons guidelines, Uploading images.
  7. Engaging students in scanning of old documents, books.
  8. Developing a database of all Goan authors and their works.
  9. To discuss follow-up plans and integration with academic activities.
  10. Documentation of Goa liberation struggle, local history, prominent places in the struggle.
  11. These projects align with new education policy as students will become knowledgeable. producers, not only consumers.

The students collected the reference books from the library to write the articles on the freedom fighters. The students were assigned with one article and monument to capture photographs. The hands on training on scanning and post processing was also arranged for selected students. Two students completed scanning one relicensed book. The books will be uploaded after the processing.

The faculty of Marathi discipline have taken up this as yearly project to document Goa freedom struggle in all aspects. The articles, images, interviews, videos and books related to this struggle will be uploaded by the students.
