How do you work with content partnerships today?
Some GLAM partnerships running of WMF funding. Working with digitizing books. Lack of resources prevent some projects, i.e. missing scanners or other tech equipment. Has created a closed library of digitized books still in copyright for WMID members. Project with Dewantara Kirti Griya museum digitizing manuscripts and sharing at Commons. Partnered with institutions in Yogyakarta to digitize material. Including outreach and promoting sharing material in projects to get partners onboard. Not enough staff or volunteers to be able to do as much as wanted.

What is your normal work process in collaborations with partners?
Starting with personal contacts, sign agreements, work a lot with digitizing material when they don’t already have digital material. Also working with QR codes at museums for easier access to collections at Commons.

Are you having a work plan for new partners and collaborations?
Plan in place for reaching more local museums this year. Want to work with museums who have resources to digitize material themselves. Planning for a GLAM conference this year to reach out further. 1lib1ref has been a way to approach university libraries and to give them training in working with the Wikimedia projects.

What are your desired content partnerships in the future?
More work with both museums and libraries ahead, building long term partnerships.

What are your needs for a successful work with partners?
“Picking the low hanging fruits first.” Lack of map or platform to showcase earlier successful partnerships and shared collections to potential partners. A great portfolio would help to open up conversations. Could be a global shared platform for all chapters/user groups to use. Repository for shared tools and documents to be used by GLAM organizers in the Wikimedia projects. Shared photos to be used in promoting partnerships.

What does the best support look like for a successful partnership?

Better coordination between chapters/user groups/communities to help each other and plan for future and current partnerships. Better cooperation with the Commons community for discussions in license questions or deletion discussions. Help in sorting out discussions with GLAMs when they fear WMID or others only want to monetize collections as Commons allow for that. Best arguments for releasing material under free licenses and allowing for others to use as they want to. Material to get institutions to understand what the Wikimedia movement is all about. Knowledge about copyright is a problem as some institutions are not really clear in what it is and how to put correct licenses on material. Participation in OpenGLAM and other conferences help in reaching out.
