Culture Connect Africa: African Film & Cinema

is an initiative scheduled to run from February to March 2024. It focuses on celebrating and enhancing the visibility of African cinema and film heritage through various activities, including training sessions, edit-a-thons, and competitions. This program aims to engage participants in exploring and promoting the rich culture of African cinematic culture.

Winning prizes are:

  1. 1st prize: Shopping Voucher: $150
  2. 2nd prize: Shopping Voucher: $120
  3. 3rd prize: Shopping Voucher: $100
  4. 4th prize: Shopping Voucher: $50
  5. Other prizes: Movie Tickets

Registration process

  1. Sign in or Create a new account on Wikipedia.
  2. Enroll on the Culture Connect Africa: African Film & Cinema Outreach Dashboard to track your contributions. Click 👉🏾 (Outreach Dashboard)
  3. Register for the onboarding and training sessions. (Registration link) join the Culture Connect Africa Community Whatsapp group via this (Link)
  4. Sign up in the participants section on this page.
  5. List the articles created or improved under Articles created/ improved section


Jury Process

To ensure transparency and fairness, the competition will adopt a quantitative scoring system. However, it's important to note that all articles must adhere to Wikimedia platform's standards for notability, quality, and sourcing, as outlined in the subsequent rules section. The judges reserve the right to disqualify any article that doesn't meet these criteria. This approach balances objective evaluation with the necessary quality controls to maintain the integrity of the competition.

The scoring system for the winners would be as follows:

  • 10 (10.0) points would be awarded for every new article (English, Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, others).
  • Five point (5.0) for every english article translated on language Wikipedia (Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, French etc).
  • Three point (3.0) for every 1000 bytes of content for the articles.
  • Half a point (0.5) for every quality source or citation used in a new Wikipedia article.
