Education/News/November 2022/Wikimedia Morocco User Group Empowers Moroccan Teachers to Use Wikipedia in the Classroom

The Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom program was recently implemented in Morocco by the Wikimedia Morocco User Group and funded by the Wikimedia Foundation. The program aimed to improve digital literacy and media literacy among Moroccan teachers.
The program was a great success and exceeded expectations. Over 760 applications were received from teachers from all over Morocco, and 200 were chosen to participate in the program. The program was conducted in a blended approach, combining online and in-person activities. At the end of the program, two in-person events were held: a workshop and a boot camp.
The program was successful in introducing and promoting digital literacy and media literacy among Moroccan teachers. They learned the basics of Wikipedia, how to use it, and how to contribute to it. The program also helped to build out more content on underrepresented topics/groups.

The project's success was due to the team's hard work, dedication, and commitment, as well as their ability to build strong partnerships with other institutions and groups. These partnerships helped to bring in more contributors from underrepresented groups. By working with partners, the team could achieve its goals and make a real impact.
Overall, the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom program was a great success. It has helped to strengthen the sense of belonging and personal investment in Wikimedia and the free knowledge movement among the Wikimedia Morocco User Group members. This program is an important step toward promoting digital literacy in Morocco, and it is hoped that it will be implemented in other countries as well.
