At its 3rd general assembly hosted by Shahid Beheshti University, the Union of Iranian Student Associations of History was introduced to Wikipedia's open access knowledge platform and its Education Program aimed at increasing Persian language content. Following vibrant discussions between the university's experienced Wikipedia editing community and secretaries of associations regarding quality control and scholarly standards, the majority expressed readiness to launch local Wikipedia education initiatives with editor support. This marks meaningful progress in involving more academic institutions into Wikipedia's open knowledge mission to mutually benefit both the participatory Persian Wikipedia resource and Iran's next generation of historians and academics through impactful exchanges. Wikipedia is being used to teach research methodology and encyclopedic writing skills in History major at Shahid Beheshti University in Iran during the current academic semester in November 2023. The program aims to increase students' research and writing skills while raising awareness of the Wikimedia movement to improve several History articles by the end of the semester. Read more…

The Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom program was organized in Djougoug where 60 teachers were trained. The goal is to improve how teachers and students use Wikipedia, making it a helpful tool for learning, and also to bring more knowledge and technology to French-speaking West African countries. KIWIX serves as a complementary service to education by providing offline educational materials. As a Kiwix Ambassador in Nigeria, and in partnership with Open Foundation West Africa (OFWA), the Kiwix4Schools app was recently launched in Federal Government Boys College Garki (FGBC) Wuye Campus, Abuja. Tyap-speaking lecturers and students of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and other neighboring institutions were present in the outreach event organized by the Tyap Wikimedians User Group in collaboration with the Wikimedia Nigeria User Group. They were taught how to create Wikipedia user accounts and introduced to editing on Wikimedia Foundation projects like Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons. It also had non-native speakers of Tyap present. The mission was to promote the writing of Tyap online using Wikimedia Foundation's platforms and establish an editing hub in Zaria for the Tyap Wikimedians. Read more…
