Македонски: Најнапред се подготвува Толенсовиот реагенс – [Ag(NH3)2]OH(aq), со капење концентриран раствор oд амонијак во раствор од сребро нитрат. На почетокот се образува кафеав талог, кој се раствора во вишок од NH4OH(aq):

2AgNO3(aq) + 2NH4OH(aq) = Ag2O(s) + 2NH4NO3(aq) + H2O(l)

Ag2O(s) + 4NH4OH(aq) = 2[Ag(NH3)2]OH(aq) + 3H2O(l)

Потоа, вака подготвениот Tоленсов реагенс се додава кон растворот од гликоза, епруветата се затвора и интензивно се клумка (меша) неколку минути. Во овој период се создава еднообразен слој од сребро на ѕидовите од епруветата во облик на огледало:

2[Ag(NH3)2]OH(aq) + HOCH2(CHOH)4CHO(aq) + 3H2O(l) = 2Ag(s) + 4NH4OH(aq) + HOCH2(CHOH)4COOH(aq)

Осмислено и изведено од Марина Стојановска, Миха Буклески и Владимир Петрушевски, Институт за хемија, ПМФ, УКИМ, Скопје.
English: Firstly the Tollens reagent – [Ag(NH3)2]OH(aq), is prepared by adding concentrated aqueous ammonia to a silver nitrate solution. In the beginning a dark brownish precipitate forms that dissolves in an excess of NH4OH(aq):

2AgNO3(aq) + 2NH4OH(aq) = Ag2O(s) + 2NH4NO3(aq) + H2O(l)

Ag2O(s) + 4NH4OH(aq) = 2[Ag(NH3)2]OH(aq) + 3H2O(l)

Then, the prepared Tollens reagent is added to the glucose solution, the test tube is stoppered and the mixture is shaken vigorously for several minutes. During this period a nice uniform layer of silver is formed on the test tube walls as a mirror:

2[Ag(NH3)2]OH(aq) + HOCH2(CHOH)4CHO(aq) + 3H2O(l) = 2Ag(s) + 4NH4OH(aq) + HOCH2(CHOH)4COOH(aq)
