Transportation in Montevideo

Walking

Montevideo is a reasonably safe city and very suitable for walking short distances. Walking is the most recommendable and enjoyable option, especially if the road is an excuse to walk along the rambla or through the city's parks. Only main streets and avenues have ramps on corners, and it is common to find breaks or obstacles on sidewalks.

Bikes

It is available on a map that contains the existing infrastructure for bicycle circulation in the city and public bicycle lanes. The network of bicycle paths does not cover all routes, and where they do not exist, circulation is on the street. A highly recommended route is the 25 kilometers of the Rambla, which runs through the coastal neighborhoods.

With the STM card each ticket includes a second transfer trip within the first hour of issue, and a "2 hour" ticket can also be ordered for unlimited transfers within that time.

It is not possible to pay by credit card on board, but it is possible to charge the STM card with credit cards at authorized locations.

Not all units are wheelchair accessible.

Cabs and chauffeured car applications

Cabs in Montevideo are safe and are identified with white and yellow colors. It is possible to initiate trips on the street, through apps or by calling and they accept cash or credit card payments. They have a safety screen that separates the driver from the passengers in the back

Chauffeur-driven car applications are legal. Only card payments are accepted through the apps themselves.

There are two accessible cab services: Taxi ABC de la Intendencia de Montevideo (tel. 19505555 with 48 hours notice) and Radiotaxi 141 (tel. 095685532 or 22031354 with 24 hours notice).
