Project idea[edit]

What is the problem you're trying to solve?[edit]

Russia is now using so called trolls to change the public opinion. I found many comments and edits in Wiki politically motivated, without sources. Just claims.

What is your solution?[edit]

Wiki should request user ID veryfication, Articles must not b published until dispute on talk page is resolved.

Goals[edit]

Get Involved[edit]

About the idea creator[edit]

Endorsements[edit]

  • This could be the only way to stop some persistent harassment. It is although important to note that a full identification is not necessary, only an authentication of the user as same as some other user. That is often what the offending user does not want, so we have a non-cooperative user authentication. Aka the user should not be authorized to post, but not simply because he refuse to cooperate. One such method is to use typing frequency (really delay) to make a similarity matrix over several users, and then tag (or refuse to save) a post from a user previously banned from posting on specific pages. To build sufficient confidence in the similarity matrix entries from a lot of posts must be available, and because of that it won't work on most new users. It will although work together with other scoring systems.
Before someone starts to argue about this, please note that there are differences between full identification, partial identification, authentication and authorization. The idea at Grants:IdeaLab/Real_Names is about full identification, which is a hard problem given the nature of the Wikimedia projects. — Jeblad 20:30, 7 June 2016 (UTC)

Opposition[edit]

  • Oppose Very strong oppose This is a duplicate of the Real Names proposal. For extensive criticism, see its discussion page: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants_talk:IdeaLab/Real_Names. Caeciliusinhorto summed it up well: "Overall, I think I have to oppose this proposal for three reasons: 1. I am not convinced it would work. 2. I am not convinced that it would be implementable in any reasonable way. 3. I think it's a case of the cure being worse than the disease." --Doveofsymplegades (talk) 09:52, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
