What problem does this solve?[edit]

It is sometimes hard to get local sponsors or partners to support your chapter/affiliate organization's activities and projects.

What is the solution?[edit]

The Wikimedia Foundation, through its Wikipedia Zero partners, provides opportunities for local sponsorship or partnership. The Wikipedia Zero partner companies are already receptive to the idea of free knowledge and they often need little convincing to support local Wikimedia projects and events.

It may help if you ask the Wikimedia Foundation to broker initial talks between the Wikipedia Zero partner and your group or organization. Also, the sponsorship need not be in terms of financial sponsorship especially if your project or event is funded through the WMF's Grants program. The sponsorship can be in kind such as freebies provided by the Wikipedia Zero partner, or even Internet access. This is often attractive to the partner because of opportunities for marketing.
