Budget breakdown[edit]

item count cost per unit total
mid class GPS navigation for regular conditions 2 475 950
resistant and durable mid class GPS navigation for tougher conditions 1 550 550
battery charger & batteries set 3 40 120
total 1620

All navigations contain detailed maps of the Czech Republic included in price.

Note: Average regular prices are considered here, however there are some negotiations with providers of support by form of discount. Possible leftovers (if negotiation of discount will be successful) might be eventually used (most probably with some add-on from the chapter) for some fourth piece of navigation (e.g. a GPS module for the camera has been suggested).

Project scope[edit]

Purchase of:

  • 2 pieces of mid class GPS navigations for regular conditions
  • 1 piece of resistant and durable mid class GPS navigation for tougher conditions
  • 3 pieces of battery charger & batteries sets

thus each relevant grant (Czech Municipalities Photographs, Documentation of Czech observation towers, Vernacular architecture, partially also Acquiring scientific and specialized pictures and Folk costumes, traditions and customs in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia) can have its own so those grants can use them simultaneously.

Project goal[edit]

Situation: Quite a lot of people take pictures but can't acquire geocoordinates right at the moment of taking the shot. And later on, it's usually pretty impossible to retrospectively find the coordinates via satellite maps (typically people don't remember the exact position or don't have enough time to spend on finding the position). Often it's just a lack of will to do that because it's rather a work for trained monkeys.

Aim: Primarily support of our (existing or submitted) related grants (Czech Municipalities Photographs, Documentation of Czech observation towers, Vernacular architecture, partially also Acquiring scientific and specialized pictures and Folk costumes, traditions and customs in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia), furthermore support of any independently-on-grants created photos and last but not least support for geotagging of articles or objects mentioned in them (natural or historical landmarks, monuments, buildings etc.).

Non-financial requirements[edit]

There are none.

Fit to strategy[edit]

Enhancement of photographies' (or other multimedia's if applicable) descriptions as well as random articles by geographical metadata, therefore extending and improving of the content of Wikimedia projects.

Other benefits[edit]

Direct GPS measuring is always more accurate and reliable than obtaining the position from maps, thus geodata obtained this way are more valuable.

Furthermore eventual retrospective checking and possible corrections of previously inserted geocoordinates obtained from maps can be done.

Measures of success[edit]

Increase of number (and thus ratio) of photos uploaded with descriptions containing exact proved coordinates as well as increase of number of articles containing coordinates.
