From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Project Goal: To purchase a projector and a screen.

Description of actual activities: The purchased model was chosen in March and a number of vendors were contacted for more information on warranty terms. Following this, the decision to proceed with the purchase was reached in June, by when the chosen projector was no longer available and its successor was purchased. After the projector was used at our AGM, we decided that white walls are not ubiquitous and purchased a portable screen.

The projector has since been used at our AGM, our WikiCamp event and a board meeting in September. It was also to be lent to Wikimedia Serbia during the Wikimedia Management Congress, however that event was cancelled.

What lessons were learned that could help others succeed in similar projects? The NEC V300X is a good projector. When buying a projector, one should not forget to buy a projector case alongside it if it is not included as a gift (otherwise the projector is not portable). White walls are not ubiquitous so a portable projection screen is a good idea – one should keep in mind that while projectors can be carried on public transport, if the screen is to be deployed, it needs someone with a car.

What impact did the project have on WMF mission goals of Increased Reach, Increased Quality, Increased Credibility, Increased and Diversified Participation?

This was a technical equipment that was needed for our effective functioning even in territories without built in projectors. It didn't have a measurable impact on its own.
