Part 1: Project and impact
[edit]1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)
Initially, I planned to hold 16 events in 7 regions, but ended up executing 18 events across 8 regions (including the March 2025 event). Furthermore, considering additional events in nearby regions that did not utilize grant funding, I conducted a total of 33 events to promote understanding of Wikipedia.
I found the most effective approach was to tailor the objectives and emphasize different points depending on the goals of each event organizer. For instance, in school classes and lectures, I focused on a practical approach to help students understand the selection and dissemination of online information they encounter. This was achieved by providing insights into the mechanisms of Wikipedia and the dos and don'ts of editing. For community colleges and senior citizens, I emphasized the perspective of "lifelong learning." In events aimed at enriching articles on picture books and illustrators, which I started this term, I explained the purpose and motivation behind WikiGap, including discussions on gender bias. Additionally, in training sessions and editing events at public libraries, I highlighted the effective utilization and potential of materials held by local libraries.
I believe that my success was due to the fact that I adapted my approach for each event, making it easier for both participants and organizers to understand and maintain a sustained interest in Wikipedia.

Part 2: Learning
[edit]4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)
You can recall these learning questions below: I have created opportunities to speak about Wikipedia at more than 160 events since 2013 and beyond. For me, this activity is not an income-generating job. I want as many people as possible to understand Wikipedia.
By continuously carrying out my activities, I believe that I can achieve a repetitive effect and increase opportunities for a wider audience to understand Wikipedia through media coverage of the event. I intend to continue this activity next year while taking care of my health. I have already received requests from remote islands, and I believe that realizing these requests will broaden understanding of Wikipedia on a wider scale.
5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)
While not a direct correlation, the depreciation of the yen and the surge in international tourism resulted in a significant increase in accommodation costs. Given that the subsidies were derived from donations by those who support Wikipedia's goals, we implemented cost-saving measures, prioritizing essential expenditures. As a result, we were able to allocate additional funds to expand our event offerings.
My initiatives have contributed to a heightened perception of Wikipedia's credibility. Survey feedback indicates a growing interest in Wikipedia among participants, with many expressing a desire to utilize the platform more effectively following a deeper understanding of its capabilities.
6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

Part 3: Metrics
[edit]7. Wikimedia Metrics results. (required)
In your application, you set some Wikimedia targets in numbers (Wikimedia metrics). In this section, you will describe the achieved results and provide links to the tools used.
Target | Results | Comments and tools used | |
---|---|---|---|
Number of participants | 300 | 64 | |
Number of editors | 50 | 116 | |
Number of organizers | 10 | 18 | 8
I was actively involved in the organization of 18 events across eight distinct regions, with the support of a team of fifteen coordinators, one for each location. In an effort to optimize resource allocation and minimize expenditures, I made a conscious decision to refrain from soliciting external speakers, including Wikipedians and facilitators. Through diligent preparation and the creation of accessible online templates and materials, I was able to facilitate the successful execution of these events with a streamlined team. |
