Part 1 Understanding your work[edit]

1. Briefly describe how your proposed activities and strategies were implemented

When we received the funds we called a meeting with the students who did English course ant Universidade Rovuma. We presented them with the 67 schools which we intended to profile. They received the funds and resources. They had four weeks to do the profiling. Each student had to work with three schools. The first thing that happened is that they were asked to present a permission letter from the university. We issued the letter. Even with the letter some schools did not provided information. While they did the profile, I went from school to school to take the two pictures from each school. I waited for the profile and which I had to type revise and publish since we did not have budget to access computers. After revision, I discarded those which I found that did not qualify to be published due to reliability of their sources. Those found qualifying were added to the Wikipedia in English. Then to the VMW incubator. Then allocated to three volunteers to work on the translation.

2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you felt were effective in achieving your goals? Please describe these strategies and approaches.

The fact I decided to type and revised the criteria for publication allowed to post of reliable content. Now the volunteers are free to improve anything of the initial published article, which has minimal acceptability.

3. Please use this space to upload media and other files that help tell your story and impact.

4. To what extent do you agree with the following statements regarding the work carried out with the support of this Fund? You can choose “not applicable” if your work does not relate to these goals.

Our efforts during the Fund period have helped to...
A. Bring in participants from underrepresented groups Agree
B. Create a more inclusive and connected culture in our community Agree
C. Develop content about underrepresented topics/groups Agree
D. Develop content from underrepresented perspectives Agree
E. Encourage the retention of editors Agree
F. Encourage the retention of organizers Neither agree nor disagree

5. Is there anything else you would like to share about how your efforts helped to bring in participants and/or build out content, particularly for underrepresented groups?

The participant to write the article in Emakhuwa into the incubator had existed already. So we worked with new 22 students who do English course to conduct the the profile the schools in English. This was to make sure that we had article both in English and Emakhuwa as planned.

Part 2: Your main learning[edit]

6. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What did you learn about these areas during this period?

The mains lessons included:

1. From now on, students who do intership in these schools which we have written their profile, will have a starting point. They will not have to start from scratch.
2. Most of the secondary school were started after the year of 1992. Many started as primary schools and evolved to secondary school.
3. There is little availability of the specific laws but the implementation of the constitution in 1992, allowed private schools to existed. Since then people did not rely only on the government.
4. The ministry of Education and Human Development is responsible to create public schools and confer permission to private education institution nationwide.

7. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences?

This time the application timeline was very good. the funds were released on time. We spend all project period doing the research to profile the 67 targeted schools. However, we learned that time was very tide.

8. How do you hope to use this learning? For instance, do you have any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future?

If we were to apply again we would only work with the number of schools to make that had time to work on translation.

9. Documentation of resources: Use this space to upload any documents that would be useful to share with others (e.g. communications material, training material, presentations).

12. Did you have any difficulties collecting data to measure your results? This could include things like a lack of time or resources, or the expertise in your team to collect this data. It could also include difficulties with particular data collection tools.

Yes

12a. State what difficulties you had.

It is still a challenge to finish the translation of the article into Emakhuwa because of budget. We expected to spend USD1000 to engage editor but we had no more budget to pay the internet café which we had budgeted. Now only three volunteers are working on finalizing the translations of the article because they have their own laptops.

12b. How do you hope to overcome these challenges in the future? Do you have any recommendations for the Foundation to support you in addressing these challenges?

I think the project goal were very ambitious this time. Next I will set more narrow goal to avoid falling short in hit them.

13. Use this space to upload any documents and provide links to any tools you have used that would be useful to understand your data collection (e.g., surveys you have carried out, communications material, training material, program and event dashboard link, project page on Meta).

Partially

14a. If yes or partially, please describe how you have already shared them and if you would like to do more sharing, and if so how.
