Part 1: Project and impact

[edit]

1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)

During the first week of the project period, me and the team members started to make an open call, carrying out online and offline awareness campaigns among the Fulfulde Wikimedians Community members and women from the targeted location where the project took place. While this was going on, I started preparing the list of articles to be used by the participants in translating them from English to Fulfulde Wikipedia. After sorting a list of over 400 articles I contacted our community leader where he reviewed the list and add another 300 articles. We then classify and leveled them according to their lengths; shortest articles (stubs) as easy level which were the articles the participants where introduced to in the first place. then we move to longer ones (medium level). Before we bring them to the fully well developed articles, they have already master the basics of editing. another important point is that, our second editathon helps us in reiterating and correcting some mistakes made by the participants in parts of some articles including using templates inappropriately, copying references and adding sections. This helps us in achieving a super great outcome with the participants creating over 800 new articles in less than the first two weeks. Certificates and prizes were giving to the top participants at the end of the project period and I introduced them to Wikimedia Fulfulde Community as new members of the community they were welcomed by everyone.

Part 2: Learning

[edit]

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below: 1. Did Women Marathon helps in enriching Fulfulde Wikipedia in bringing more female contributors and more content related to women? 2. How does the Women Marathon helps in changing the Fula women perspectives about participations in Wiki related events? 3. Are the community members ready and happy to adapt the Women Marathon to be one of the community's annual events? 4. In what way does this Marathon affects the participants performance, negative or positive?

1. Yes, the participants are entirely women and the 1000+ contents they worked on are entirely on women biographies and women lifestyles.

2. This marathon helps the women from Fulfulde Wikimedia Community realize their power and full potential to make impact in the Wikimedia ecosystem. This was unveiled through different testimonies and confessions made by both newbies and experience female editors within the community after realizing how heigh they have greatly achieved in feeding the Fulfulde Wikipedia with needed contents about women.

3. Yes, the participants have shown their earnest support for the adaptation of the Fulfulde Wiki Women Marathon to be part of the community's reoccurring event. And we used the opportunity of having our community leader present during of our physical trainings to extend the request to him for the required guidance and support.

4. Positive.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

Yes, I am so surprise by the fact that the editor with the highest number of edits in this marathon happened to be a lady I coached personally through chats, video calls and screen recording. She wasn't able to attend both the physical trainings because she's so far as she lives in another state different from where the trainings holds. Yet, she made such a bold step and huge contributions. This was indeed something that moved me in surprise.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

The results will be shared in our community group immediately after submitting this report alongside the results for the top most contributing participants.
