Part 1: Project and impact

During the Rapid Fund period, we organized the II International Conference GLAM+Wikiverse+GENDER, held on June 5th at the Faculty of Information and Audiovisual Media, University of Barcelona. The event aimed to explore the opportunities of Wikimedia projects in the fields of libraries, archives, and museums with a gender perspective, and to share the results of three years of research from the Women and Wikipedia project.
Activities implemented:
- Keynote talks by international experts in gender, Wikimedia, and open linked data.
- Roundtable discussions with representatives from Wikimedia communities across Spain.
- Internal working session with partner organizations on research findings and challenges related to gender in Wikipedia editing and representation.
Results achieved:
- More than 70 participants (in-person and online).
- Live streaming of the full program (recording available).
- Active engagement from Wikimedia groups (Amical Wikimedia, Wikimedia Spain, Galipedia, Euskal Wikilarien Kultura Elkartea, user groups like Wikimujeres, Viquidones, WikiEmakumeok).
- Presentation of preliminary findings from 5 research areas related to gender and Wikipedia.
- Collaborative strategies proposed to improve women's participation and representation on Wikipedia.
The hybrid model (on-site + streaming) and the integration of academic research with Wikimedia volunteer communities were key to achieving these goals.

Part 2: Learning
4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)
You can recall these learning questions below: In the morning, I am interested in exploring the possibilities of the Wikiverse, especially regarding the semantic web and linked open data. During the afternoon, we will focus on our project "Women and Wikipedia," where we will share the results of three years of research with the Wikipedia communities in the Spanish-speaking regions. I would like to enrich the interpretation of the data, understand other analytical perspectives, and provide feedback to the community that has supported us so much over these years.
Our learning questions focused on understanding the representation of women in regional Wikipedias in Spain and studying the dynamics of participation and negotiation during editing.
Key learnings include:
- The process of article deletion negotiation can be discouraging for new female editors, especially in gender-related topics.
- We identified self-organized strategies among female editors to sustain their engagement, including peer support and thematically oriented groups.
- Data analysis showed that the availability of reliable sources remains a barrier to increasing women's biographies.
These insights will shape future collaborative projects, editor training, and proposals to improve gender balance in Wikimedia environments.
5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)
A positive surprise was the strong interest and involvement of allied organizations like a research center and the documentalist and librarians Union (e.g., CRICC, COBDC) not initially foreseen as part of the project.
On the negative side, some people initially that were supposed to present werent able to come for health issues.
6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)
It was our II edition and we are preparing already the IV Wiki GLAM Gender edition.

One invited keynote from UK could not travel, travel trips were by train that it is less expensive than plane, people weren't at hotels mostly and used our student residence.
