The 2024 Iranian Wikimedians User Group meeting in Istanbul, held alongside Wikimedia CEE Meeting, focused on bridging generational gaps, improving group structure, and planning future projects. Discussions centered on forming a Board of Trustees, creating transparent decision-making processes, and ensuring member participation, regardless of location. The group also planned future initiatives such as Wiki Loves Monuments and Persian Wikipedia’s anniversary, aiming to grow and strengthen the community. Notably, collaboration with other Wikimedia communities like Arabic Wikipedia was discussed to foster regional ties and shared projects.

Part 2: Learning

[edit]

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below: We want to learn how to make our community stronger and more impactful on Wikimedia projects. Specifically:

Sharing Knowledge: How can we share knowledge effectively? Increasing Participation: What motivates active contribution? Enhancing Influence: How can we better represent our community's needs? Building Partnerships: What types of partnerships benefit us most? Measuring Impact: How do we measure our success and ensure lasting change? These insights will guide our community's growth and development.

From these learning questions, we discovered the importance of open communication and transparency in sharing knowledge within our community. Active participation was driven by a sense of belonging and clear roles, while external partnerships with other Wikimedia groups proved beneficial. To enhance our influence, we learned that community members value a strong voice in decision-making processes. Moving forward, we plan to improve participation by fostering more inclusive discussions and building stronger collaborations with external partners to ensure broader impact across Wikimedia projects.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

During our activities, we were pleasantly surprised by the level of engagement from participants, which exceeded our expectations. This enthusiasm highlighted the community's desire for more collaborative opportunities. However, we also faced challenges, such as some logistical issues that impacted our scheduling.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

We documented everything related to the meeting on Meta (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Iranian_Wikimedians_User_Group/Iranian_Wikimedians_UG_meeting_2024) and shared the reports and outcomes through our social media channels and the Wikipedia village pump. We also plan to publish the results on Diff to reach a wider audience and engage the community further.
