We intended to host a Wikipedia edit-a-thon on our campus in conjunction with community partners. However, fifteen minutes before the start of our event there was an electrical outage on our campus that knocked out all internet campus-wide. As a result, we had many attendees who enjoyed our food and giveaways but were unable to do any editing without access to the internet which was only restored hours after the end time of our event.

Part 2: Learning
[edit]4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)
You can recall these learning questions below: We would like to see how Wikipedia editing gets incorporated into the life of our campus and local community as a form of public humanities work. We want to get a sense for how our college community views Wikipedia editing and demystify any perceived gate keeping to this work, along with inviting participants into the work of increasing representation for women and non-binary artists in Connecticut on the site in the process.
Working with the CT Museum and our campus community engagement center was a perfect collaboration in terms of wanting to increase outreach to a broader swath of campus and invite new editors into our space.
5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)
We had an internet outage on campus fifteen minutes ahead of our event which made it impossible to edit. We pivoted to talking about Wikipedia editing with the students already in attendance. We were pretty disappointed because we had the highest in-person attendance we'd had to that point in the event (22 students in person and 5 staff).
6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)
We continue to use our resource site in doing outreach to faculty to incorporate Wikipedia editing into their classrooms and are hoping to apply for a new grant to repeat art+feminism in 2025.
