You can recall these learning questions below: Grants:Programs/Wikimedia Community Fund/Rapid Fund/WLE Brazil 2024 (ID: 22592880)/Final Report/17
How many contributors and photos did WLE bring? WLE has a significant impact as a brand, attracting volunteers and fostering a sense of pride and motivation, rather than being just an activity.
How have participants' perspectives on biodiversity conservation changed after participating? We talked with our participants via social media, and it was interesting that they followed us on social media to learn more about other conservation units.
What factors could motivate participants to continue contributing to Wikimedia Envoriment after the WLE?
Ongoing activities. Photo expeditions and face-to-face activities work more than lectures and workshops.
What were the barriers? For the WLE, our crappy upload system. By now, we should already have a more intuitive and faster uploader. For retention, keep ongoing activities with little or no money, and do not reconnition from WMF.
How effective was the WLE in bringing in new participants or communities? Not much. We tracked 2023 participants, and only at WLE did some of them return to contribute to the WLE.
Did participants feel welcome, safe, and supported during the WLE? What were some ongoing challenges?
Welcome and safe, yes; supported, no. Our bus factor needs to be bigger, which can lead to interactions that cannot be answered in a timely manner. Also, the wiki notification system is unreliable, preventing us from seeing some questions.
Did participants gain the skills and motivation necessary to continue contributing to Wikimedia projects?
Only those participating in the related activities can continuously contribute; the contest is too specific.
Did new organizers develop the skills and motivation needed to continue participating as organizers? Yes! They increasingly feel part of a community and request more responsibilities.
What types of support and activities interest participants who want to learn more about the Wikimedia community? Videos explaining why and how to contribute, photo expeditions, and photo walks were some of the answers.
5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)
Only some organizers and jury members had some personal issues, that impact in our organization, we need to increase our bus factor, and also the criminal fire that occur at the same time of the contest, that made some of our jury members not contribute to register it professionally.
6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)
We are about to organize another wiki loves, but in partnership with others Brazilian groups, and we will actively share our knowledge with then.

Given the unexpected closure of Viruá National Park for ten months due to renovations and the significant impact of the 2024 wildfires on our alternative location in Brasília, we've had to postpone the expedition.
To maximize our impact in 2025, we've shifted our focus to Maranhão, aligning with WMB's strategic priorities. This will allow for stronger collaboration between our organizations and amplify our collective influence within the Wikimedia Movement in Brazil. We plan to revisit Viruá National Park in the second half of 2025, post-renovation.
13.2. What are you planning to do with the underspent funds?
