Part 2: Learning

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below: Do the participants feel involved and interested in contributing to the Campaign? Which training and support was useful for newbies in gaining skills? Did the participant feel excited and continue to contribute after the events? Did the Organizers feel supported in monitoring the participants? What support and activities were most interesting to the participants during the campaign? What challenges were encountered by participants during the campaign? To answer all these, learning will be done by using qualitative and quantitative data collection methods.

Participants in the WikiClimate Connects campaign have shown strong involvement and interest in contributing, driven by the urgency of climate change issues. Many have actively engaged in events such as webinars and edit-a-thons, expressing satisfaction with the project's goals and feeling that their contributions are both valuable and impactful. The campaign has successfully fostered a sense of community, with many participants continuing to contribute to Wikimedia platforms beyond the initial training sessions.

Effective training and support have been key to this success, particularly for newcomers. Introductory workshops that simplified the editing process on Wikimedia platforms were highly beneficial, providing participants with the confidence to start contributing. Mentorship programs, where newbies were paired with experienced editors, offered hands-on guidance that built their skills and confidence. Specialized training sessions that combined climate education with Wikipedia editing skills were particularly impactful, equipping participants with both technical skills and content knowledge, leading to high-quality contributions.

Additionally,Interactive Q&A sessions further enhanced this support, providing real-time assistance and reinforcing learning. Overall, this combination of structured training and ongoing support has not only facilitated initial participation but also encouraged sustained involvement in the WikiClimate Connects campaign.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

During the WikiClimate Connects project, I observed that many participants from UNEP Tanzania were editing content on Swahili Wikipedia for the first time. This experience was a significant opportunity for them, as they were excited to contribute their knowledge on climate change topics. Their enthusiasm highlighted the project's impact in not only broadening the availability of climate information but also empowering new contributors to share valuable insights in their native language.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

Social Media Posts: We shared updates on social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. This helped to reach a wider audience beyond the immediate Wikimedia community, raising awareness about the project’s success and encouraging others to get involved. Wikimedia Outreach Dashboard: We used the Outreach Dashboard to document and track contributions, providing a transparent and accessible record of the project’s impact.
