Part 1 Understanding your work

[edit]

1. Briefly describe how your proposed activities and strategies were implemented

First of all, we started with sending out Invitation letters to our potential partner Women Organisations notifying and inviting them about the project and when it's going to happen. We then organised 2-days in-person training workshops (presentation sessions) in October 2022 and followed it with a 3 weeks of writing contest to motivate the participants commit to editing Wikimedia platforms from October to November 2022, and after that we created two WhatsApp groups for follow-up sessions to support participants during and after the writing contests.

2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you felt were effective in achieving your goals? Please describe these strategies and approaches.

Yes, of course there were strategies that have helped us in achieving our goals, especially inviting those women organisations, that has encouraged a lot of them to participate because they saw we are all women and they were easily open to us and eager to join us. And another strategy is creating a WhatsApp platform for them, we now have an active WhatsApp platform that we deliberate our activities, we now have participating in different areas of activities on Wikimedia spaces and we are always expanding together.

3. Please use this space to upload media and other files that help tell your story and impact.

4. To what extent do you agree with the following statements regarding the work carried out with the support of this Fund? You can choose “not applicable” if your work does not relate to these goals.

Our efforts during the Fund period have helped to...
A. Bring in participants from underrepresented groups Strongly agree
B. Create a more inclusive and connected culture in our community Agree
C. Develop content about underrepresented topics/groups Strongly agree
D. Develop content from underrepresented perspectives Strongly agree
E. Encourage the retention of editors Agree
F. Encourage the retention of organizers Strongly agree

5. Is there anything else you would like to share about how your efforts helped to bring in participants and/or build out content, particularly for underrepresented groups?

I would like to share that, myself and my colleague facilitators being only women to organise this project had helped us a lot in mobilising women to joined us participate in this project and write contents that represents ourselves. Because, in a region where volunteerism is not popular and female education is still not everywhere and you got more than 25 of them to join Wikipedia and help cover a content gap is a success to us.

Part 2: Your main learning

[edit]

6. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What did you learn about these areas during this period?

Base on our outlined learning priorities, we have achieved key learning takeaways from this project. Firstly, we have successfully engaged Hausa women into online volunteering platforms, this strategy has proven effective throughout and has helped us in the adaptation of the cultural sensitivity of the society. Secondly, we have achieved new user recruitment and retention method by providing them with a platform for continuous mentorship and skills improvement. Thirdly, we have also, achieved ways to collaborate with local organisations for good, this has helped inclusivity and diversity. Finally, we have achieved of skills, content creation about women in our localities...

7. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences?

We are grateful that everything went smoothly according to our plan. The event have yielded positive experiences, especially the participants' enthusiasm and their eagerness to learn contributing to the Wikimedia platforms as evidenced by their numerous questionings on editing after the program.

8. How do you hope to use this learning? For instance, do you have any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future?

We are planning do a lot of other programs even if it's outside Wikispaces on how we can continue to develop the culture of volunteering and tech literacy among our women because Wikimedia has definitely open us a way of seeing the world in a very different way that we have known before. So, also contributing to Wikiprojects for us is a pride and we will keep inspiring others to do and help bridge perspective on contents that are on the internet.

9. Documentation of resources: Use this space to upload any documents that would be useful to share with others (e.g. communications material, training material, presentations).
