Part 1: Project and impact

1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)

During this year's competition, we collaborated closely with a photography club to enhance the quality of the photos submitted, which was a key objective for this year’s contest. By focusing on improving the technical and artistic standards of the entries, we aimed to elevate the overall caliber of the submissions.

In parallel, we promoted the competition on social media platforms, especially those frequented by photography communities. This outreach strategy played a crucial role in attracting both amateur and professional photographers, helping us meet our project’s goals.

These efforts have yielded remarkable results, particularly in terms of photo quality. This is clearly reflected in the statistics, with 564 quality images, 51 featured pictures, and 33 valued images representing Tunisia this year. These figures underscore the success of our approach and the growing recognition of Tunisian photographers on a global scale.

Part 2: Learning

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below: In this project through this collaborations with photographers, we hope to built a strong and productive enthusiastic task force to create and distribute the free and open knowledge to everyone needed.

How can we better engage and motivate participants across Tunisia, especially in underrepresented regions?

Learning: I found that localized outreach was essential. Collaborating with regional partners and local clubs, like Club Wiki Metlaoui, helped us tap into communities that may not have engaged otherwise. By organizing events like photowalks in nature reserves and protected areas, we sparked interest in areas where environmental photography and Wikimedia engagement were previously low. Future Application: For future contests, I'll continue expanding collaborations with local organizations and clubs. This approach will not only increase the diversity of entries but also strengthen the Wikimedia community in Tunisia. What methods ensure a high-quality submission process and fair evaluation?

Learning: Providing clear guidelines on quality standards and arranging pre-event photography workshops led to a noticeable improvement in the quality of submissions. Inviting experts as judges and clearly defining criteria early on helped maintain transparency and credibility in the judging process, which boosted participants’ trust and satisfaction. Future Application: In future events, I’ll implement similar pre-event training sessions and ensure the judging process remains transparent and well-structured. Engaging photography experts early on will continue to raise the bar for submissions, contributing to the success of the contest and its impact on Wikimedia Commons. What strategies effectively address logistical challenges in running a nationwide contest?

Learning: I encountered several logistical challenges, from coordinating events in remote areas to managing participant support. Establishing a dedicated team to handle specific tasks—like participant inquiries and event scheduling—proved invaluable. Clear communication through multiple platforms (social media, email, local announcements) also helped keep participants informed and engaged throughout the event. Future Application: For future editions, I plan to formalize team roles further, with specific responsibilities for outreach, participant support, and logistics. Streamlined coordination will enhance efficiency, allowing us to focus more on community engagement and participant satisfaction. Through these insights, I learned valuable lessons in outreach, quality management, and logistics that will shape future iterations of Wiki Loves Earth and similar Wikimedia initiatives. I hope to build on these foundations, increasing the impact and reach of Wikimedia projects across Tunisia.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

What pleasantly surprised us during this year's competition was the enthusiasm and intense competitiveness among the participants. Many were captivated by the concept of the contest and put in great effort to submit exceptional photos. This level of engagement was unexpected and has inspired us to expand our outreach in future editions.

Moving forward, we are motivated to involve a larger number of professional photographers and forge new partnerships with organizations and individuals specialized in photography. This will not only elevate the competition’s profile but also help us achieve even higher standards in the years to come.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

During the closing ceremony of the competition, we presented a comprehensive overview of the contest’s statistics, including the total number of photos submitted and the number of participants, along with comparative data from previous years. This allowed us to reflect on the growth and development of the competition over time.

We also facilitated a discussion focused on the quality images competition, encouraging feedback and ideas for future improvements. Additionally, the numbers of quality images, valued pictures, and featured pictures were shared on the Wiki Loves Earth in Tunisia Facebook page, further engaging our online community and celebrating the contest’s success.
