Part 1 Understanding your work
[edit]1. Briefly describe how your proposed activities and strategies were implemented
During the pre-competition period (July and August) all lists of cultural monuments have been checked and updated. The List is updated with new data and new monuments based on official listings from Government pages and Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of Serbia. More than 100 new locations are added. In the pre-competition period official website (in Serbian), pamflet in English and promo materials (in Serbian) are made.During the month of August we looked out for potential jury members and worked on edi-a-thon preparations. All templates on WP and Commons are updated. In September competition was launched, together with three photo walking tours. During the competition all competitors received support from the organizing team (uploading instructions, tech support, list of monuments etc). Also, a special site was created and localized for all jury members, which was very helpful for them. Just after the competition, in October jury members worked on selection of the best photos. Contacts for the Award Ceremony venue have been made in August/September with two potential solutions - SKIP and University Library. Final decision was that SKIP is the most suitable for this purpose. On November 5th the Award Ceremony was held. On the same day the first exhibition started and it was open to the public until December 5th. Second exhibition was organized in WMRS just for the WMRS birthday party. Third one is planned for February, in Ivanjica, town in western Serbia.
2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you felt were effective in achieving your goals? Please describe these strategies and approaches.
The best approach from our prespective is organizing photo-walking tours with prepered itinerery and enough info about local monumnets on the path. This was very effective in achieving quantity, but also it was some way of educative aproach: a) take a photo, b) memorize the location, c) aknowledge some info about the monument.
3. Please use this space to upload media and other files that help tell your story and impact.

4. To what extent do you agree with the following statements regarding the work carried out with the support of this Fund? You can choose “not applicable” if your work does not relate to these goals.
A. Bring in participants from underrepresented groups | Not applicable to your fund |
B. Create a more inclusive and connected culture in our community | Not applicable to your fund |
C. Develop content about underrepresented topics/groups | Not applicable to your fund |
D. Develop content from underrepresented perspectives | Not applicable to your fund |
E. Encourage the retention of editors | Not applicable to your fund |
F. Encourage the retention of organizers | Agree |
5. Is there anything else you would like to share about how your efforts helped to bring in participants and/or build out content, particularly for underrepresented groups?
More than 50% of new editors/users stated that they would like to participate again. All members of the organizing team expressed their interest and possibility of future participation.
It is very important to observe and analyze all participants in terms of future success and development. Since the WLM inaugural period (some 10 years ago) technology has been developed a lot. Nowadays the majority of participants use their personal mobile phones rather than cameras. This is a strong indicator that support and interface should be adapted for phones and tablets. However, this is not “good by” for professional cameras, so all enthusiasts which prefer this tool should also have full support, both technical and for interface.
Part 2: Your main learning
[edit]6. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What did you learn about these areas during this period?
Three main learning priorities were outlined:
- WLM competition from 2016, had some minor obstacles in realization, which eventually had a bad impact on WLM in Serbia in general. After a few years of hiatus, WLM 2022 is organized. Compared with the previous edition, the last one was smaller in number of competitors and photos. This outcome was planned in the metrics, which shows good planning. It should be noticed that lower figures are also a trend on a global level also. This year, WLM 22 finished in 16th place in total, which is the highest ranking so far (previous editions were between 20th and 30th). Percentage of new users in the previous editions was between 64% and 69% (if we exclude inaugural one, when percentage was 82), and this year we hit 71%.
- This year, beside photos we included an edit-a-thon also. Expectations were 30 participants and 50 articles (Organisers didn’t take part in its term of getting real metrics). Outcome was really interesting - only 8 participants, but 251 articles were written, which is high above any expectations and metrics.
- In general, edit-a-thon and photo competition were very successful, since new users were included, and the organization is completely covered by volunteers and community members which are not official WMRS members or active ones at least. Cooperation with the local chapter and WLM organization team turned out very successful.
7. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences?
Number of rainy and cloudy days in September was very high (above 20 days). At least ⅔ of these days were very rainy or with constant showers. Some regions of Serbia experienced precipitations 280% higher than average for this part of the year. All mentioned above highly impacted the expected outcome and turn-out and had a negative effect on all photo-tours (date was moved a few times), and also on quality and number of photos, number of participants etc. Some monuments were out of bounds due to bad weather and restoration.
8. How do you hope to use this learning? For instance, do you have any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future?
Budget and grant agreement came into effect in late August, which brought a small gap for planning activities for competition start. In the future, better calendar planning should make more space for any changes, maneuvers and time planning.
Interesting fact is the increase of mobile phone users in this photo competition. This fact could be used in the future for planning support for mobile users (i.e. how to properly use a camera, mobile interface and camera settings for better quality photos)
9. Documentation of resources: Use this space to upload any documents that would be useful to share with others (e.g. communications material, training material, presentations).

Part 3: Metrics
[edit]10a. Open Metrics reporting
In your application, you defined some open metrics and targets (goals). You will see a table like the one below with your metric in the title and the target you set in your proposal automatically filled in. Use the tables to report the result. Use the comments column to describe any aspects of this result that you find relevant. If the results were different from the initial target (goals) then you can explain why and what you learned from this. You can also provide any qualitative analysis regarding these results. In the last column please describe the tools and methodology used to collect this data and any difficulties you might have had.
Open Metrics | Description | Target | Results | Comments | Methodology |

As required in the fund agreement, please report any deviations from your fund proposal here. Note that, among other things, any changes must be consistent with our WMF mission, must be for charitable purposes as defined in the grant agreement, and must otherwise comply with the grant agreement.
17c. If you have not already done so in your budget report, please provide information on changes in the budget in relation to your original proposal.
Some items have increased spend due to inflation rate in country and increasing prices in the past few months. We didn't include bank fees and taxes in the original proposal which was $50.

18c. Please provide details of hope to spend these funds.
I'm planning to take participation in organizing WLE in Serbia, so I would like to apply for new Rapid Grant in the upcoming months. Unspent funds would be incorporated in that budget, or redirected for the planned third photo exhibition.
