[edit]

1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)

Our activities were a webinar on knowledge and its impact on climate, during which a number of Libyan specialists and academic researchers spoke in the field, and through it we sought to attract volunteers to edit in Wikipedia and its sister projects, also organizing a contest on the environment in the Maghreb region, which is the second version of it, to support and encourage new users in Wikipedia and increase their contributions, as we targeted users whose number of edits is less than 1500, with a special prize allocated to the category of users who have more than 1500 edits. The competition contributed to motivating members of the Wikimedia Libya community, and they won second and third from Libya.

Part 2: Learning

[edit]

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below: Does the community want to learn about the Wikimedia campaigns? How many attendees are in the session? How many participants are in the Wikipedia contest? We will compare this year's results with last year's results in terms of the number of participants, followers, and attendance.

We learned that the community is curious to learn more about Wikimedia campaigns. Approximately 22 individuals participated in the webinar, showing interest and engagement. Additionally, 10 participants joined the contest, demonstrating great enthusiasm and motivation.

This insight highlights the importance of organizing more interactive sessions and contests to attract and retain community members.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

Yes, during the implementation of our activities, We were pleased with the high level of enthusiasm from the participants, especially from those who had little to no prior experience with Wikimedia projects. Their eagerness to learn and contribute was a motivating factor for the organizers.

We faced a challenge with the fluctuations in the exchange rate and the difference between what the foundation calculates and what is available in the country, which caused us payment issues and forced us to communicate multiple times with the grant employees.

What we learned realized that providing consistent support and encouragement can significantly boost participation and motivation, even among those new to Wikimedia. These insights will help us improve the structure and inclusivity of our future activities.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

We have created a page on Meta and Arabic Wikipedia to document the project and its activities.

Additionally, we shared the results of the contest with the community through posts on social media platforms.
