Part 1 Understanding your work[edit]

1. Briefly describe how your proposed activities and strategies were implemented

We had a WhatsApp group meeting with members of Senior Citizens to intimate the members about the project. We attended a meeting organised by the Wiki Loves Africa Team where we were taught on what is required, which includes how to upload to commons using the Wiki Loves Africa Link, how to categorise the entries, generally clear guidelines and rules were discussed and provided to participating communities, including details on image format, licensing, and submission process. We publicized the program using a number of platforms, such as social media, neighbourhood forums, neighbourhood gatherings, and also collaborated with groups that support Climate change in Nigeria. We had two in person events and several online meetups so as to carry everyone along especially members that are not in Abuja. We had photowalks in designated areas between May and September when the season in all the part of the country moves from dry season to raining season and when the predicted flood of 20233 would have started. A professional photographer was called to teach us how to take good photographs with our phones. We collected many pictures in two major categories Dry season period and Rainy season that has to do with climate change activities. After the photo walk, we had an edit a thon for members of the Network to upload the pictures to Wikimedia commons.

2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you felt were effective in achieving your goals? Please describe these strategies and approaches.

Yes, some of them were Discussing about the project in our WhatsApp group and organizing series of online sessions where lectures were given on what climate change is all about, activities that are termed climate change, tools for climate change activities and so on. Sorting the help of a professional photographer who taught us how to take a good snap shot with our phones and attending the general meeting by WLA team were some the measures that helped achieved our goals were discussed. Targeting critical areas that has a high concentration of climate change activities was another approach we used to get the desired result. We are happy to state that out over 3000 pictures that was submitted in Nigeria one of our pictures came Nineth, and we also got a certificate for an outstanding performance from the Wiki Loves Africa Team.

3. Please use this space to upload media and other files that help tell your story and impact.

4. To what extent do you agree with the following statements regarding the work carried out with the support of this Fund? You can choose “not applicable” if your work does not relate to these goals.

Our efforts during the Fund period have helped to...
A. Bring in participants from underrepresented groups Strongly agree
B. Create a more inclusive and connected culture in our community Agree
C. Develop content about underrepresented topics/groups Not applicable to your fund
D. Develop content from underrepresented perspectives Agree
E. Encourage the retention of editors Agree
F. Encourage the retention of organizers Strongly agree

5. Is there anything else you would like to share about how your efforts helped to bring in participants and/or build out content, particularly for underrepresented groups?

There was a lot of enthusiasm for the initiative. After hearing the advertisement or seeing it on Facebook, etc., a large number of people wanted to take part. A portion of the population did not reside in Abuja or its surroundings. We had to make plans for them to be viewed on the internet. The number of members joining the WhatsApp group from throughout the nation is steadily increasing. Since then, participants have kept up their contributions, learning, and appreciation of the foundation.

Part 2: Your main learning[edit]

6. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What did you learn about these areas during this period?

We found out that there were clear impact of climate change especially the increase flooding and rise in water level of rivers. Part of the cause was wrongful disposal of refuse in water channels. Unfortunately, local authorities have not started giving it required attention. There will still be need for enhanced sensitization to get local communities and authorities to pay more attention to the flood

7. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences?

I did not expect the high number of pictures uploaded this showed that senior citizens were interested and understood what to do and how to do it and do it well.

8. How do you hope to use this learning? For instance, do you have any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future?

We have found that that if we receive trainings, collaboration, guide and encouragement we are more effective and productive. To enable more learning, we are allowing a few younger persons to join us so that they can also help in networking, tech etc. this way we can set our limits, our target, our working modalities etc. We also agreed that once in while we will carry out trainings on digital literacy in order to start getting aquatinted to Wiki interphase and more especially learning how to edit Wikipedia as it is more difficult

9. Documentation of resources: Use this space to upload any documents that would be useful to share with others (e.g. communications material, training material, presentations).
