Part 1 Understanding your work[edit]

1. Briefly describe how your proposed activities and strategies were implemented

On the 29th of October 2022 we had an offline celebration and we also had a training on using "Wikishootme" tool for adding content on the various wiki projects. On the 30th of October, we had the online celebration where we also trained members of our community on how to use the Wikishootme tool.

2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you felt were effective in achieving your goals? Please describe these strategies and approaches.

Yes. we wanted to find out how often our members contribute to the wikidata project and in other to get that, we had members fill a survey form to enable us get an insight on the matter. Also, having both online and offline celebrations in different dates allowed us to pay more attention to the participants as we did not have to divide our attention in an attempt to satisfy a certain group which would probably have been the case if it was done in same day.

3. Please use this space to upload media and other files that help tell your story and impact.

4. To what extent do you agree with the following statements regarding the work carried out with the support of this Fund? You can choose “not applicable” if your work does not relate to these goals.

Our efforts during the Fund period have helped to...
A. Bring in participants from underrepresented groups Agree
B. Create a more inclusive and connected culture in our community Strongly agree
C. Develop content about underrepresented topics/groups Agree
D. Develop content from underrepresented perspectives Agree
E. Encourage the retention of editors Agree
F. Encourage the retention of organizers Strongly agree

5. Is there anything else you would like to share about how your efforts helped to bring in participants and/or build out content, particularly for underrepresented groups?

The celebration helped most of our new members connect more as we got to celebrate together and most got to meet each other for the first time which gave the group some form of human touch and some of our members got to invite their friends as well which translated to new members for us.

Part 2: Your main learning[edit]

6. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What did you learn about these areas during this period?

We carried out a small survey during the celebration and the following were our findings:

  1. Very few of our community members knew about using tools to add contents on wikidata
  2. Most of our participants only add content to Wikidata when we have edit-a-thons or Meetings

7. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences?

8. How do you hope to use this learning? For instance, do you have any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future?

organize more events and edit-a-thon to increase the participation of our members. also focus on training our members on how to use tools to add contents on wikidata and other sister project.

9. Documentation of resources: Use this space to upload any documents that would be useful to share with others (e.g. communications material, training material, presentations).
