Part 1 Understanding your work[edit]

1. Briefly describe how your strategies and activities proposed were implemented and if any changes to what was proposed are worth highlighting?

Community feedback was obtained through a Community Engagement session. Other activities have been implemented through competitions, edit-a-thons, online interactions, and courses among others.

2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you feel are being effective in achieving your goals?

Introducing hybrid (both online and offline) engagements helps engage a bigger community audience.

Engaging community members on social media via WhatsApp, Telegram, Twitter, and facebook has also been an effective strategy in ensuring involvement.

3. What challenges or obstacles have you encountered so far?

We do not have a common channel to gather all the usergroup volunteers in one place as a central communication medium.

We have not yet established a formal recognition of official members of the usergroup.

4. Please describe how different communities are participating and being informed about your work.

Use of social media (Twitter, WhatsApp, telegram) to share information about different activities

Use of email and the talk page. Updating the meta page with a list of past, on-going and future activities. https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiUganda_Community_Engagement_Meeting

5. Please share reflections on how your efforts are helping to engage participants and/or build content, particularly for underrepresented groups.

We are developing partnerships with secondary schools on training and content generation in the Luganda Wikipedia, previously the Usergroup had focused on working with institutions of higher learning.

The Usergroup’s work with refugees (Wikiforrefugees) has supported the efforts to create a Usergroup in South Sudan.

6. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What have you learned so far about these areas during this period?

We are yet to determine the learning priorities, as we currently still have activities running concurrently.

7. What are the next steps and opportunities you’ll be focusing on for the second half of your work?

We will be focusing on processes to improve on our reporting.

Secondly, we will focus on the strategic consultation process for the usergroup. Community engagement, and formal structure of the Usergroup.
