Project Goal[edit]

What will be the outputs of your project and how will those outputs contribute to advancing a specific Movement Strategy Initiative

What specific Movement Strategy Initiative does your project focus on and why? Please select one of the initiatives described here
Support communications or translation needs for a Wikimedia movement activity, meeting, or program.

Project Background[edit]

When do you intend to begin this project and when will it be completed?
I intend to begin at May 30th or as soon as possible
Where will your project activities be happening?
This project is about the creation and translation of content. The materials created by me, all of them would be uploaded at Wiki Commons. The rest of the work will take place at Meta Wiki.
Are you collaborating with other communities or affiliates on this project? Please provide details of how partners intend to work together to achieve the project goal.
This project takes into consideration the lack of knowledge of the Portuguese-speaking community about the Movement's Strategy and the current drive by more experienced members organized in groups and projects to educate the community about the MS|G. The material created through this grant will be able to support any training initiative on MS|G.
What specific challenge will your project be aiming to solve? And what opportunities do you plan to take advantage of to solve the problem?
The lack of understanding about the MS by the Lusophone community. It is difficult to communicate with the community about the actions and initiatives of the MS|G when we are still in a very early stage of understanding basic fundamentals about it. For this reason, and taking advantage of the work of some community groups and users that aim to train the community on these issues, I decided to focus on making available materials that supports these actions in the best possible way.

To do this, I will translate the Playbook (the most complete material we have so far on this subject), translate a list of pages on Meta (previously discussed), and finally create a material (in English and Portuguese) based on all this content and aimed at capacity building.

Does this project aim to apply one of the examples shared in the call for grants and if so which one?
This project can become an example for others who want to create/translate communication/education material.

Project Activities[edit]

What specific activities will be carried out during this project? Please describe the specific activities that will be carried out during this project.
  • The creation of a Portuguese version of the Movement Strategy Playbook, that includes its translations and the creation of a new pdf document with the necessary adaptations.
  • The translations of a list of 12 Meta pages.
  • The creation of an educational material, in slides format, that summarizes and communicates the book's content in a more didactic way suitable for workshops and presentations in english.
  • The creation of an educational material, in slides format, that summarizes and communicates the book's content in a more didactic way suitable for workshops and presentations in portuguese.

This work will be divided into phases that should follow the following chronological order in order to meet in time certain needs of the community as the use of this material on the Wiki Con Brasil:

- First, the reading and study of the MS Playbook - The creation of didactic and summarized content based MS Playbook - The creation of visual material based on that didatic content, as slides for presentations, in Portuguese - Making this material available on the Commons Wiki - The creation of an English version of the same didatic material (to serve other possible communities with the same problem) - Making this material available on the Commons Wiki - The creation of the document that will be a Portuguese version of MS Playbook - The availability of this material on the Commons Wiki - The translation in Meta Wiki of MS pages

How do you intend to keep communities updated on the progress and outcomes of the project? Please add the names or usernames of these individuals responsible for updating the community
I intend to contact directly some people who can benefit from this material and apply it in their projects and activities, such as the organizers of WikiCon Brazil 2022.
Who will be responsible for delivering on this project and what are their roles and responsibilities?
I´ll be responsible for the work alone. My responsabilities are taking care of the translations of the Playbook and the translations of the Meta pages; creating the educational materials based on the Playbook for presentations; upload both content on Wiki Commons under free licences and to contact the community - especially those involved in actions directed towards the debate of the Movement Strategy such as the organization of the WikiCon Brazil.

Additional information[edit]

If your activities include community discussions, what is your plan for ensuring that the conversations are productive? Provide a link to a Friendly Space Policy or UCoC that will be implemented to support these discussions.
Not the case.
If your activities include the use of paid online tools, please describe what tools these are and how you intend to use them.
I have all the materials and tools needed for this work.
Do your activities include the translation of materials, and if so, in what languages will the translation be done? Please include details of those responsible for making the translations.
Portuguese. I´ll be responsible for the work alone.
Are there any other details you would like to share? Consider providing rationale, research or community discussion outputs, and any other similar information, that will give more context on your proposed project.
The lusophone Wikipedia community is currently hosting discussions on the Implementation of the Movement Strategy and the impact, challenges and possibilities, of its initiatives on our community. In Brazil, the community is going to have their first WikiCon (late July) and most of the activities revolve around discussions about the Movement Strategy. This grant also takes this into consideration, and will deliver the part of the work intended to be used in the conference before the completion date of this grant, so this material can be used by trainers. This is one of the goals of this grant.

The creation of a material in Portuguese is therefore intended to facilitate understanding for all, especially those marginalized by language barriers. Also, the creation of an English version of this same material is a way to serve any other language community that - like the Lusophone one - feels the need of materials and inputs to start a dialogue about the MS.

Outcomes[edit]

After your activities are complete, we would like to understand the draft implementation plan for your community. You will be required to prepare a document detailing this plan around a movement strategy initiative. This report can be prepared through Meta-wiki using the Share your results button on this page. The report can be prepared in your language, and is not required to be written in English.

In this report, you will be asked to:

  • Provide a link to the draft implementation plan document or Wikimedia page
  • Describe what activities supported the development of the plan
  • Describe how and where you have communicated your plan to relevant communities.
  • Report on how your funding was spent

Your draft implementation plan document should address the following questions clearly:

  • What movement strategy initiative or goal are you addressing?
  • What activities will you be doing to address that initiative?
  • What do you expect will happen as a result of your activities? How do those outcomes address the movement strategy initiative?
  • How will you measure or evaluate your activities? What tools or methods will you use to evaluate your activities?

To create a draft implementation plan, we recommend the use of a logic model, which will help you and your team think about goals, activities, outcomes, and other factors in an organized way. Please refer the following resources to develop a logic model:

Please confirm below that you will be able to prepare a draft implementation plan document by the end of your grant:

  • ...

Optionally, you are welcome to include other information you'd like to share around participation and representation in your activities. Please include any additional outcomes you would like to report on below:

Budget[edit]

How you will use the funds you are requesting? List bullet points for each expense. Don’t forget to include a total amount, and update this amount in the Probox at the top of your page too!

  • Compensation for translation-related work is based on a 0,06 euros per word, (below the market 0,09). The MS Playbook has about 15 000 words and to translate the Meta pages, and for translating the Meta pages, I calculate a bank of 6,000 words for about 12 pages, based on previous experience. Total amount of 1260 euros.
  • Compensation for the creation of 2 educational materials: 300 euros based on a 15/hour.

TOTAL AMOUNT: 1 560 euros

This amount should cover:

  • the creation of a Movement Strategy Playbook in portuguese, properly created under free licenses and uploaded to the commons
  • and the creation of an original educational material based on the content of the Playbook in a slides format, also under free licenses and uploaded to the commons.

This amount includes:

  • Research (time needed to review, perform analysis, or investigate any information needed to support implementation ideas or planning)
  • Documentation (document preparation time, time spent documenting of discussion, post-meeting work)
  • Facilitation (facilitation time including meetings with members of the community)
  • Data (internet or mobile costs)
  • Online tools or services (subscription services for online meeting platforms, social media promotion)
  • Other: All needs have been budgeted using per-word and per-hour value estimation.
