Project Grants Committee
Candidates

Please volunteer to review Project Grants! Applications for Project Grants are reviewed by a committee of volunteers. Please be sure to review the membership criteria before you sign up.

If you are interested in joining the committee, please sign below and include a brief statement about why you want to serve on the committee. In your statement, you can consider discussing:

  • On-wiki editing and experience
  • Experience leading, coordinating, or managing projects with an intended on-wiki or online impact.
  • Background in handling externally provided money and working within budgets, preferably in a non-profit context.
  • Any grants you've applied for or worked in grant programs (in the Wikimedia, academic, or wider non-profit world).

Add your statement in order to be considered for review of the 2021 Round. Terms are for 6 or 12 months.

There will be a focused period of committee engagement for two weeks during each round, to review the first round of proposals. This will require on wiki proposal review and discussion, as well as one weekend call with the committee. There will be four rounds of proposal review each year. For the upcoming dates, please see the posted schedule.

[edit]

Hi. I'm active in Wikimedia projects, primarily enwiki. There, my primary field of activity is in technical areas, such as reviewing bot approvals, writing templates and abuse filters. I operate my own bot there, and have contributed code to MediaWiki in the past as well. My offwiki background is in software development; I've managed resources for software projects, though in for-profit environments rather than non-profit. I'd like to think I'm good at evaluating technical and functional constraints, giving useful feedback and evaluating realistic timescales. On grants I'd mostly be interested in software and research projects. I believe significant benefits can be realised for Wikimedia sites if folks are encouraged to apply for software/research grants and helped through the process. Accordingly, I'd like to encourage more people to submit grant applications and also feel like the process may be slightly impenetrable for some developers, so I'd like to help out there where I can. Please get in touch if any further information may be of help. ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 16:38, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
