Goals[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

  • The goal of Wiki-agripo 7.0 was to add content on more than 300 new articles and 100 photos of villages of East Cameroon as well as 20 images on Wikipedia by 10 new editors during 4 events. Overall, we are happy with the project because 11 contributors shared more than '490 articles related to East Cameroon (progress of more than 150%). Hoewever, at the end of the project, we do have any photo or images. The local contributor do not want to share images of their localities. They tell us that they do not want to show their poverty worldwide. We will continue to try to have engagement for photo and image production on villages of east Cameroon since the project ended.
  • The villages of East Cameroon are listed in the [Category of the villages of the East Cameroon]

Minimum of 6 new editors 10 new editors
Minimum of 300 new articles More than 490 new articles New contributors were very engaged in creating articles on East Cameroon unless that they are new editor and the region has limited available free-use information. Unfortunately, they remain limited by the intransigence of the administrators of wikipedia in French portail who lacked flexibility, tolerance, benevolence and openness to the African context which is far behind in the world encyclopedia. Many pages have been deleted demotivating at the same time the team of contributors. We decided to extent the activity on november to achieve the results although this situation.
Minimum of 100 photos of villages of East Cameroon O photo Local contributor do not want to share free access photo of the region on wikipedia. Many tell us that the region is too poor and they would not want to show their poverty. Unless that we launch a photo contest with 3 money prize. Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

What worked well?
  • We mobilise 11 interested participants on our volunteerism mechanism -- many people were less skilled to write articles on Wikipedia. However the new editors with limited wikipedia skills succeed to publish four hundreds articles online
  • Overall quality of the Cameroon portal need to continue to be improved. The Cameroon portal has 11 911 articles now and it remain the second portal in Africa, after Algeria.
What didn't work?
  • Finding free-use information on rural area like villages is very complicated. Therefore, participants had to collect available information to maintain dynamic. It still remains a more difficult task for beginners. But more than ever, local population do not want to share images and photos of their locality in a free access portal. They are afraid to show their weakness worldwide.
What would you do differently next time?
  • This experience helps us to continue to develop new engaged contributors. This proven strategy is effective and productive and we will continue to invest in a progressive turn-over of small team of engaged contributors to consolidate impact and results on article. However, we need to change the strategy for photo and image. Engagement of population is not the solution.
