Goals[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

  • Several new editors were recruited.
  • Through series of trainings/workshops that we had the skills of existing editors were built upon.
  • New and existing Wikidata items were created and improved respectively.
  • Wikimedia projects were introduced to new editors.
  • Appreciable number of photos were uploaded to Wikimedia commons.

Outcome[edit]

Please report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
Number of participants: 20 31 We exceeded the target by 11. The Community being an upcoming one had a lot of people registering for the event. For that, we went for a larger venue to be able to accommodate them and have enough space to abide by the Covid-19 protocols.
Number of events: 1 1 We had one event but 4 trainings/workshops were held during weekends of every week over the project period.
Number of new editors : 5 11 Our target was exceeded by 6
Number of of articles created or improved N/A 170 Our main objective was to work on Wikidata but realized the necessity of creating Dagbani articles for the various items that we created Widata for since our trainer is one of Dagbani Wikipedia team.
Number of Wikidata items created/improved: 40+ 123 We were able to achieve our target by creating/improving 40+ Wikidata items.
Number of photos uploaded on Wikiimedia commons: 40+ 37 We uploaded 37 photos to Wikimedia commons, a few short of our target.

Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
The main objective of the project was to contribute to Wikidata but the introduction of the Dagbani Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons made the whole project become hybrid and it was fund working on all the 3 Wikimedia projects since this is was the first experience for our community.
  • What did not work so well?
Internet instability was a thorn in our flesh during the project especially the the photo upload stage.
Getting original photos for the various festivals was difficult for us since we did not have all of them happening within the duration of the project, by and large we were able to get an appreciable number of photos from some festivals.
  • What would you do differently next time?
Internet accessibility and reliability will be tested using different internet networks at the venues that we intend using for our events.

Anything else you want to share about your project?

  • The whole project was exciting and the community members were seeking for more of it.
  • The project has helped in documenting festivals celebrated in Ghana under Wikidata, Dagbani wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. With this project, Information about the festivals that we have worked on can be found in all the 3 Wikimedia projects that I mentioned earlier and for that matter contributed generally to the content of Wikimedia projects.
