Goals
[edit]Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went? Yes i am happy how the project went. We met our goals and it was a very long and engaging project. We have ended it but we are still engaging. We had to have extra online session to add Wikicommons to the training because during the training there was a request for how can we upload pictures, we are information officers? So we had to add Wikicommons to the training.

Learning
[edit]Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
The enthusiasm of some of the editors who are information officers helped us to achieve our target and this also has increased the number of members on the Lagos Wikipedians which has been created because we realise we now have many people from Lagos who are now Wikimedians and they were requesting for a community group they will join to become a part of the community. So we started the registration process of the Lagos Wikipedians under the Wikimedia Nigeria User Group. Some of them also attended the Wikimania, we have a Lagos Wikipedians which is under registration with the Wikimedia Nigeria User Group. Some of the participants have started joining other community programs. Some want to know more about the community, so the mentoring is still ongoing. The retention process of some of the new editors is impressive. The Permanent Secretary and the Commissioner also had to encourage their staffs to continue to contribute to Wikipedia. The level of acceptance from the ministry is amazing. They are encouraging the staffs that they are information officers and they must take it upon themselves to contribute to Wikipedia.
- What did not work so well?
- Timing was a big problem for us. We had to postpone the physical training many times because of unavailability of venue which we didn't budget for.The Ministry promised to give us the hall but it took a long time before they could secure the hall for us so it affected the completion of the project at the expected time and it also affected participation because some of the participants had taken time off to participate in the training at the stated time from their different ministries but the postponement really affected the full participation we were expecting.
- The training also clashed with some other activities the ministries had so we had 120 people registered for the training on the Whatsapp platform but some could not join because of the other activities. It is an election period so they have a lot of activities going on
- We had issues with alternate power during the physical training because we didn't make a budget for it. The generator had technical issues and it took a very long time before we could start the training. At a point we had to start doing one-one when there was no power supply.
- What would you do differently next time?
- Next time we will budget for our hall so that we don't have issues with timing and participation
- We will ask for a stipulated time that will not affect participation of new editors to the project
- We will always make available an alternate power backup

Anything else
[edit]Anything else you want to share about your project?
There was a request for physical mentorship. So i volunteered to go once a month to the ministry and have a mentorship session with them. I know how difficult it is for retention of participants. This mentorship will help keep some new editors and encourage their continuous contribution. I am starting in December, I will go there once every month for the next 4months to review their Wikipedia progress and journey and to put them through. I am glad they requested for such support from me. It helps to boost confidence in any trainer that retention can be slow but it will get better as we move towards our goals of ensuring everyone can have access to Free Knowledge and we can have more people contributing to Wikipedia.
