Project Plan
[edit]Activities
[edit]Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:
1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?
- I will be doing six online trainings and using the Zoom App, two physical training and one editathon
2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.
- A notification has been sent to the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria. Link [[1]]
3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.
- We will announce on WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook
4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.
For example: User:I JethroBT
5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?
- Yes they have the equipment but we will support them with data
6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?
- We will create a WhatApp group to ensure they are mentored. The Whatsapp group to be created would have experienced editors who have showed their interest in the project. Tochi Precious from Igbo User Group is supporting us to ensure that the participants become editors and contributors to Wikipedia. She knows they are professionals and as information officers they are trained to disseminate information. she has volunteered to mentor them so also Agbalagba from the Yoruba User Group. He is also supporting to ensure that the Professionals will continue to contribute to Wikipedia, so he will also be a mentor for the participants after the training to ensure their participation. This project was a request from them and their involvement will help contribute to the improvement of Wikipedia's image in Nigeria. The Whatsapp group will be a great learning platform and a follow-up for the participants. They will also be invited to join the User Groups in Nigeria.
7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?
- This training was a call from the Director of Social Media Lagos State. He believes that as information officers they should be able to contribute to Wikipedia and bridge the knowledge gap on the information of Lagos State. A community of information officers in Lagos State will break the bias and bridge the knowledge gap that has lingered for so long in our system. They were trained to report from a neutral point of view, so writing from a neutral point of view on Wikipedia will only strengthen their Media Information Literacy skills and this will also help in the documentation of Nigerian content on Wikipedia. Wikipedia is the only platform where we can store our culture, heritage, language for tomorrow's yet unborn. Wikipedia is the place to store Nigerian content.
- The information officers can access the archives for our references, they know how to because they are trained how to. An hub of information officers in Lagos state is a game changer for Lagos state and also Wikipedia because the Media is the Fourth Estate of the Realm, and they are the ones that will help change the bad image and impression people have about Wikipedia in this society. Their voice is key to achieving many goals. No society can do without the information officers and in reality no society can do without Wikipedia except we want our heritage, our history to go into extinction. A call for a training from them without any cohesion will be a real game changer for any society that wants to fight disinformation and fake news. As a Journalist and COHORT for the Reading Wikipedia in Classroom, i see and know the importance of this training to many Wikipedia project, even Reading Wikipedia in classrooms, this will be a game changer for the project because it will help to foster a reading relationship with the government which will ensure that the government embraces reading Wikipedia in classrooms. The information officers are 400 but starting in batches will help us know how serious they are about the training. I have informed the Director of Social Media who requested for the training that we will train in batches to see the willingness of their participation.
