Goals[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Absolutely on both questions! This was an incredible experience showcasing the amazing photography that Wikimedia Commons contributors include in each year's Wiki Loves Earth campaigns. We were able to create exhibitions on three different locations, with thousands of contacts with people that would otherwise not been familiar with either the subject of the photographs but also the fact that there are great volunteers providing high quality photographs for the benefit of humanity.

Outcome[edit]

Please report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
> 10 000 Number of people reached at social media

  • unknown at Botanical Garden, Porto (entry is free and not controlled)
  • more than 50 000 visitors in Porto de Leixões, Matosinhos (based on number of visitors to the Open Day, and additional visitors while the exhibit was up.)
Number of visitors at each venue
more than 20 Number of media reports

Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?

The choice of photos and the setting for the exhibits was excellent. We were surprised by the number of visitors, but linking the exhibit to a place where a lot of people already circulate (such as the broad walk in Cascais) or linking it to another popular event (such as the Open Day in Leixões harbour) allowed a lot of people to view the exhibit. We had some publicity for all three exhibits (see clipping below), thanks to the partnership with CIIMAR, Cascais municipality and the Leixões Harbour Authority.

  • What did not work so well?

The pandemic made it so we had to postpone plans for a long time, and the team was less motivated in the end.

  • What would you do differently next time?

The botanical garden offered a great opportunity to have people take photos of the flora and fauna in the garden, and upload it to Wikimedia Commons, but the pandemic setting did not allow this to happen. Next time, it would be great to have a bioblitz either linked to iNaturalist or directly to Wikimedia Commons, to complete the circle of contribution.
