Goals[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went? Yes, we were able to meet our goals. We were able recruit new editors, engaged existing editors, added and also improved SDGs' related content about Nigeria to Wikipedia and WikiData. Trained selected SDGs' crusaders in Nigeria on how to contribute to Wikipedia and Wikidata. Please report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.

Number of repeat participants (for project that include series of events): 25 - We unable to have the same 25 number of Participants to attend the three evets.

Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?

Two of the reasons the three event went well were: All participants always look forward to the next meetings because there was different facet of Wikipedia to learn. Besides, We had an enabling environment with air conditioned against the usual heat of North Central Nigeria where the events took place. In addition, new editors informed their friends about the event which made the target of new and retaining editors possible. Amidst the new editors, over 45% of them were winners of the gift vouchers for top editors.

  • What did not work so well?

During the event some of the participants were students of different universities who came to represent their organisations as delegate. Some had test during that time which could not make them really contribute during the edit-a-thon. Secondly, we were supported with free Zoom subscription that could accommodate participants who were not in the state where the event took place but due to delay of some of guest speakers we had to stop the zoom as we could not follow the order of event as planned. The bureaucracy of some of our partners was also one of the major challenges.

  • What would you do differently next time?

In subsequent Wiki Loves SDGs Nigeria Edit a thon, we will ensure we choose date that has enough time to reach partners, hear from them and also make all needed resources available.
