Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
  1. Just like last year, one of the things that worked well was the promotion of the event in social media by aiming at people interested in culture, history and architecture who are based in Morocco.
  2. Another thing that was tried this year and worked pretty well is to proactively contact individual and groups of photographers and invited them to participate.
  3. We have also tried a new strategy by using our social media platforms together with info-graphics presenting the rules of the competition and how to participate and win.
  4. Just as last year, we have organized an (online) edit-a-thon that yielded pretty good results, see dashboard.
  5. Jury went very well this year with the participation of several fans of photography and architecture. The tool (montage) worked pretty well too.
  6. This year we had a comprehensive list of monuments (with IDs in wikidata) that helped build the pages for the different monuments in different cities.
  • What did not work so well?
  1. The quality of the uploaded photos could be once again improved.
  2. Copyright issues were problematic this years, one of the top 10 was removed because of that.
  3. Problems with FOP (freedom-of-panorama) in Morocco led to the removal of several photos.
  4. The contact information of the participants were not always provided, it was difficult to contact them afterwards (tips: use social media).
  • What would you do differently next time?
  1. I would emphasize on copyright violation issues by clearly informing participant about the accepted licenses in Commons.
  2. I would require contact details and quality of the photo for eligibility.
  3. For next year, we will include more monuments in our lists with focus on endangered monuments.
