Goals[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Yes, we met all our goals and we are happy with our the project went.

Outcome[edit]

Please report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
Number of events - 22 events (20 online and 2 offline events) 24 event We earlier planned to have 20 online events, and 2 offline events. We could not do the offline events because the participants are scattered in different parts of Nigeria, and traveling to different parts of Nigeria to conduct an in-person event would not be feasible due to our limited budget for this project. We converted our offline events to online events.
Number of participants reached - 1,010 More than 1030 participants were reached Our Central Notice Banner was only displayed for 24 hours instead of the 1 month we planned. We were excited that more than 1000 people registered to be trained
Number of new editors who registered an account - 150 193 new editors registered an account (See the project dashboard) Many of the people reached did not respond to our follow-up emails but we are excited to onboard a total of 193 new editors.
Number of articles created or improved - 200 331 (as at the time of reporting) (See the project dashboard) As of the time of writing this report, a total of 331 articles were created or improved. At least 147 of the articles were new articles created by the new editors
Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events) - 100 More than 120 participants At least 20 new users are now regular contributors to Yoruba Wikipedia

Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
  1. The overall idea worked well
  2. The Central Notice Banner for logout users
  3. The targeted language Wikipedia for recruitment (English Wikipedia) worked well
  4. The concurrent online training
  5. The follow-up and mentorship of participants
  6. The funding support from the WMF
  7. WMF Qualtrics tool support for registration
  8. Support from Ciell, the central notice admin.
  9. Our choice of trainers and mentors
  10. Advises from WMF staff members (Alex Stinson, Asaf Bartov, Tanja Andic et. all)
  11. The Wikimanan session that inspired the idea
  • What did not work so well?
  1. We did not ask people to select their mode of training in the form. This put an additional burden on the organizers in trying to understand the training mode of each participant
  2. No enough funding to travel to many places for in-person training
  • What would you do differently next time?
  1. In our form, we will include a provision for participants to select their preferred mode of training
