Grants:Simple/Applications/Wikimedia México/2021-2022/Strategic Plan

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Introduction[edit]

Wikimedia Mexico is a non-profit civil association, and is recognized as a Mexican chapter by the Wikimedia Foundation. Its function is to disseminate and promote Wikimedia projects based on courses, workshops, talks, edit-a-thons and editatonas; as well as strategic alliances with cultural and artistic institutions, cultural centers, schools, universities, groups, civil society organizations and private companies with the aim of providing free knowledge. With this, WMMX has established itself as a benchmark in Mexico and in the region, being a very solid and consistent chapter, which over 10 years have proven to be highly reliable. Likewise, Wikimedia Mexico has responded to the changes of the Wikimedia Foundation itself, and of society itself in these changing times.

Vision[edit]

"Imagine Mexico as a place in which everyone has access to human knowledge."

Mission[edit]

"Build, grow, share and spread the knowledge of humanity in Mexico in a free, open and permanent way."

Principles[edit]

Decentralization[edit]

Most of the volunteers of Wikimedia México, as well as the activities and events take place in Mexico City. In recent years, the number of events -mainly editatonas- has increased in other states of the country, so we plan to increase the number of activities in these states and integrate more communities.

Diversity and inclusion[edit]

At Wikimedia México we encourage the participation of communities and sectors that have historically been marginalized and invisible. This perspective is transversal in all projects, programs and events.

Security and privacy[edit]

It is our priority to guarantee the security and respect the privacy of Wikimedia Mexico volunteers, both in face-to-face events and virtual activities.

Culture and free knowledge[edit]

One of our main objectives has been the promotion of culture and free knowledge in all our projects, programs, events and alliances. In this way, we promote the use of free licenses, good practices and circulation of works in the public domain.

The following objectives were defined by the Board of Directors of Wikimedia Mexico:

  • To establish participation agreements with cultural institutions.

  • To communicate regularly to our community about the values of the chapter
  • To promote the strengthening of the community through the transfer of technical knowledge of the different wikimedia instruments and tools.
  • To contribute with the free knowledge debate through technical analysis and professional technical criticism.

Strategic Angles[edit]

  • Develop and formalize ongoing activities and events with our educational and cultural alliances.
  • Promote the creation of communities outside of Mexico City.
  • Establish strategic alliances to reduce the gender gap in wikimedia projects.
  • Integrate teachers of different educational levels, adapting the program to their needs and contexts, with face-to-face and online activities.
  • Support and promote the editing and publication of Wikipedia in indigenous languages.
  • Hold and diversify regular meetings, face-to-face and online, with male and female volunteers.
