Grants:TPS/Eugene233/Wikimedia Diversity Conference 2017
This Wikimedia Participation Support request was not funded. Reasons have been communicated with the request submitter on the Discussion page.
Proposed participation
[edit]The conference seeks to inspire many Wikimedia volunteers to take actions and advance the mission of free knowledge through the various projects in which they are engaged despite their culture, race and languages etc. As a volunteer developer and active contributor from the Wikimedians of Cameroon User Group in Africa which has not many volunteer developers, I see this as an opportunity to grasp the maximum knowledge from those I have been working with remotely so I can impact that in my local community in order for the mission to be fulfilled. I intend to grasp more knowledge about how the existing languages have been implemented so that same will be done in my local community to engage others as well.
Goal and expected impact
[edit]- Grasping the techniques in building a community of peoples with different cultures - Learn more on the brilliant Wikispeech project so as to engage a community of African volunteers. - Discuss strategies to focus on building Wikimedia student ambassadors for African University campuses and Wikispeech ambassadors as well for the African countries.
Budget breakdown
[edit]- Travel ( round trip from Douala, Cameroon to Stockholm): USD 1 000
Other instructions
[edit]- The organizers (WMSE) will be charged with booking the flights as they are already willing to book accommodation and participation. Therefore I suggest they be contacted to process anything that results from this application.
Endorsements
[edit]- Support Eugene has been a great contributor from Cameroon, Africa to the Wikispeech project led by Wikimedia SE. This will be a great way for Eugene to meet with a much wider community(at the Conference) of diverse minds, which he would use as a stepping stone to further promote the vision of the movement in Cameroon and beyond (by training more developers).
