Proposed participation[edit]
I am a Wikidata Visiting Scholar at the National Library of Wales with a particular interest in how Wikidata can be used to discover, visualise and analyse library collections. I recently completed a project to create Wikidata items for an entire collection of 4,600 prints of Welsh scenery and I am now working on another project to create Wikidata for individuals and businesses involved in the book trade in Wales. I have been accepted to participate in the Linked Open Data in Libraries, Archives and Museums (LODLAM) Summit, where I will have the opportunity to share the outcomes of my Wikidata projects with the delegates during the sessions. LODLAM will bring together a community of like-minded practitioners from around the world who are working with linked open data in cultural institutions, universities and commercial organisations. I am sure that the participants will be excited to learn more about Wikidata. I believe that it will be possible to encourage cultural institutions to contribute through a discussion of the potential to use Wikidata to enhance to their collections and examples how queries can be used to produce data visualisations.
Goal and expected impact[edit]
The primary aim of my participation is to raise awareness of Wikidata as an entry point into linked open data for cultural institutions. Hopefully, some of the participants will be interested in contributing to Wikidata and I will gladly help them to start editing. Further, the LODLAM Summit will be an excellent opportunity to network and exchange ideas with the other participants which has the potential to facilitate collaborations for new projects and will be beneficial for my ongoing work with Wikidata.

Sic19 first approached the National Library of Wales to volunteer as a Wikipedia editor and worked closely with myself (the Wikimedian in Residence at the National Library of Wales), on a number of projects before being appointed as a the worlds first Wikidata Visiting Scholar - a position that was created with the support of the Wikipedia Library. Sic19 has worked tirelessly to create rich high quality Wikidata from Library metadata, often carrying out additional research and connecting with third party open data in order to enrich datasets. He has also created a range of data visualizations and is working on a comprehensive study of the data which will be published in the National Library of Wales Journal. Sic19 is an excellent advocate of linked open data who has also been advocating the use of Wikidata at the University of Leeds, where he is currently employed. Sic19 has come to understand the advantages for institutions of publishing linked open, and the ways in which data can be enriched and visualized using a number of techniques. I believe this summit would be an excellent opportunity for Sic19 to share his experiences in working with Libraries and Wikidata and i'm sure he will learn a great deal which i have no doubt he will apply to the excellent work he continues to do with National Library of Wales and Wikidata. Sic19 has been volunteering with Wikimedia UK for several years and has been bringing a lot of value to our programmes. He is very experienced in the area of data and libraries, and it would be great for him to have an opportunity to share his knowledge, and also learn more to be even more effective.
