From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Project summary[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

Following the recent successes in librarians' training in Gombe University Library and Gombe City, it's imperative to extend this initiative to the Federal University Kashere, which is over 63 kilometers from the capital. FUK Library With a staff strength of over 40 professionals and 15 paraprofessionals, it would be of great value to the 1Lib1Ref campaign when trained and onboarded.

The 1Lib1Ref campaign aims to improve the reliability of Wikipedia articles by encouraging librarians to add at least one citation to a reliable source. This not only enhances the quality of information online but also empowers librarians with valuable digital literacy skills.

Hence, organizing capacity building on digital literacy and the Wikipedia skills required to participate in the annual campaign will go a long way toward improving the reliability of Wikipedia.

Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

The Wikimedia UG Nigeria community will be communicated using her talk page and other relevant communities, such as the Gombe Wikibrarians.

The prospect of the project has been discussed with representative librarians from FUK Library, and formal writing would be done to communicate our proposed dates for the two-day capacity building and campaign timeline.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings. Some staff of the FUK Library are part of the Gombe Wikibrarians and have been communicated to promptly.

  • Strong support Strong support: This is a welcome development. Taking Wikipedia awareness and capacity building closer to Librarians at Federal University Kashere will NOT only improve their digital skills but also enable them to participate in the global 1LIB1REF and African Librarians Week 2024 campaign which aligns with the aims of Wikipedia more accurate and reliable.

Furthermore, it will mitigate challenges associated with distance which has hindered the participation of Librarians from FUK in Wikimedia activities organized within the state capital. Lazborn (talk)

  • Strong support Strong support: This is a great opportunity for the Librarians in Federal University Kashere and aim to equip the librarians to contribute to Wikimedia projects.
