  • The purpose of this project is to address the critical issue of climate denialism in the Hausa-speaking communities'. Climate change is a pressing global concern that requires collective action, and misinformation remains a significant obstacle in tackling this challenge effectively. This project aims to utilize the power of knowledge dissemination through the Hausa Wikipedia platform to combat climate denialism and promote accurate scientific information among the Hausa-speaking population.

Project Goal[edit]

  1. recruit new editors
  2. Add or improve contents
  3. Provide training sessions on Wikipedia/wikidata editing and reliable sourcing to ensure high-quality content creation.
  4. Translate climate change articles from English Wikipedia into Hausa, ensuring accessibility to a broader audience.
  5. Promote the use of Hausa Wikipedia as a reliable source of climate-related information through creation of climate change articles.

Activities[edit]

1. Are you doing one Edit-a-thon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

One Physical Training, one Online Training and three (3) weeks contest on creating/editing and translating climate articles.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

We will let our participants know about this project on our discussion Page and social media platforms.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

I will communicate with them through user:talk and social media channels.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse your proposal as proof of availability)

We have our social media platforms where we will follow community members up.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

This project will bridge the gap by making reliable climate-related information accessible to the Hausa-speaking population, combating climate denialism and fostering informed discussions.

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  • Food and Drinks: 1,500 x 22 (participants and facilitators) = N33,000 for 1 day

  • Hall: N30,000 for 1 day

  • Data support for participants and facilitators - 24 people = N24,000

  • Transportation for facilitators: N3,000

  • Projector - N10,000 for 1 day

  • Prize for Top 3 editors - N30,000

  • Event Banner: N15,000

  • Contingency - N20,000

  • TOTAL  : N165,000

The project lead is an experienced editor and I will join him in creating a proper awareness to the Hausa Wikipedia people who do not understand much about climage-denialism and how to fight it using Hausa Wikipedia articles.
