Project summary

[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

This is a project that will engage members of Wikimedia Nigeria - Imo State Network to support the Independence Day Campaign organized by Wikimedia Nigeria Usergroup. We will embark on a local photo walk to the National Museum of Unity, Enugu, Enugu State. The museum which was established in 1972 is notably the only thriving museum in south eastern Nigeria and it harbors three different galleries;

1. Nigeria Belief Systems (Unity gallery) 2. The Igbo World View 3. The Coal City Gallery

These galleries consist of interesting collections of Nigeria independence Symbols, National Arts, Carvings, archaeological and ethnographic exhibits.

As against the backdrop of missing national artifact across museums in Nigeria, it is worthy of note that the National museum of Unity, Enugu, posses national object and symbols of different ethnic group in Nigeria before independence, this include kingship and royal regalia, symbolic arts of communication with supernatural forces, and the architectural relics of traditional government.

With this photo walk we intend to tell many untold stories about Nigeria's Independence, stories we have lived without since the past 62 years of independence, and stories that are fast going into extinction which are missing on wikimedia projects.
