1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

We are planning one training and one edit-a-thon

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

Our project has been announced at the Nigerian User talk page (Item 197)https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Wikimedia_User_Group_Nigeria#Equity_Watch_Initiative_[E-WIN]_#1lib1ref_project.

It has also been announced at the Equity Watch Initiative Wikipedia WhatsApp platform and Facebook page;https://web.facebook.com/groups/913688539104576

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

The project has been announced at the Equity Watch Initiative Wikipedia WhatsApp platform, Facebook page and Twitter hand @Equity_Watch1. These are the various platforms we use to engage with members and fans. Despite the Universities in Nigeria are on strike, the Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB)’ programs are ongoing. Fortunately, E-WIN’s office is located at Energy Center, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) which is where UNN JUPEB students attends lecture. We will leverage on that to liaise with the coordinator of JUPEB program Prof. Chika Ogonu to make announced in classes regarding our program. Besides, we shall also reach out to some of our post graduate students via phone to encourage them to attend given that the Director of E-WIN Dr Chiemezie Atama is also a Senior lecturer in UNN.

4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.
For example: User:Kaizenify

Yes, E-WIN has organized and trained many Wikimedias in UNN and have experienced Wikipedia editors to lead the event. My humble self User: Chiemezie Atama and Users; Ngozi osadebe who have been acting as facilitators in all Wikipedia projects at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka are available to lead the event. Recently, we successfully organized Equity Watch Initiative Art and Feminism edit-a-thon that was a huge success.

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Yes. Participants have the required equipment. Almost all students in UNN have personal laptops. However, E-WIN will make provision for few laptops in case there is need for it. Moreover, the National Energy Research Center which is where our office is located have lap tops which we is available for our use at minimal cost. Because E-WIN office is located in the University, we have internet connection and electric power supply, however, to avoid any form of disruption, we will make plans for alternative internet and power supply.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

Already, we have E-WIN Wikipedia WhatsApp group through which we constantly encourage participants of our Wikipedia programs and also share experiences of how we interface with Wikipedia. Participants of this program will be informed of that group during our event and will be added to the group. We will also continue to talk with them one on one as majority are our students that we meet in seminars and class rooms and even in our office given that we are located within the University.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

It is our wish to continue to expand Wikipedia program in Enugu state and we will do that as soon as the ASUU strike is called off.

Impact[edit]

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  1. Number of events-2
  2. Number of participants-18
  3. Number of new editors-5
  4. Number of of articles created or improved-45
  5. Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events)-10
