Grants:Wikimedia UG Nigeria Grants/Wikimedia User Group Nigeria Community Support Fund/Nigerian Institute of Journalism WikiFan Club/Meetup and Wikipedia and Wikidata Awareness Training

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Project summary[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

  • This is a meetup and Wikipedia and Wikidata awareness training. The Nigerian Institute of Journalism is a communication school, and it is a monotechnic. We want the WikiFan Club at the school to become more active and viable. That is why we are starting with a meetup to sensitise the students about our community, what we do as Wikipedians, and why they need to always contribute to Wikipedia as communication students. After the meetup, we will introduce the training to them, which will commence the following week. During the meetup, we will invite the project director of Wikimedia Nigeria User Group to speak to them as a mentor and a student from the Lagos State University who has been contributing to Wikipedia and how impactful it has been to her. The testimony can also help grow the club in the school. We had to do the meetup and the training because exams start at the end of August and school vacates in September. So we have to ensure we kick-start the club again this year, have new members, and hold on to the old members. A continuous programme will ensure positive growth in the fan club in the school.
