Grants:Wikimedia UG Nigeria Grants/Wikimedia User Group Nigeria Community Support Fund/Photowalk and Wikidata of Secondary Schools in Badagry a division of Lagos

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Project summary[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

Lagos State boasts a substantial number of secondary schools, with over five thousand in total. These comprise both public and private schools. Among these, approximately 2500 have received official registration and approval from the Lagos Government. The approved list of schools can be found here: [1]. However, querying Wikidata reveals that many of these schools lack comprehensive representation on Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons, resulting in a significant content disparity.

Photos help capture the reader's attention better than a wall of text and make the article more instructive and engaging for them. Leveraging my expertise as a professional photographer and my deep commitment to enhancing content on Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons, I plan to address these content gaps through the implementation of this project.

Lagos State comprises five distinct administrative divisions: Ikorodu, Ikeja, Epe, Badagry, and Lagos Island. This project work will focus on collaborating with skilled photographers to capture imagery of secondary schools situated in the Badagry division of Lagos State. This Photo-walk will encompass the subsequent local government areas within the division: Ojo, Iba, Oto-Awori, Olorunda, Badagry-West, and Badagry Central. We will train participants on the process of uploading photos to Wikimedia Commons and creating Wikidata items.
