  • In a world where images hold immense power, it is essential to acknowledge the significance pictures carries in telling stories and preserving memories. it becomes apparent that the absence of images in biographies leaves a profound impact. Behind every biography lies a rich tapestry of experiences, accomplishments, and struggles. Yet, without visuals to accompany these narratives, a crucial dimension remains hidden. The power of imagery transcends mere representation; it breathes life into the stories we read, making them more relatable, tangible, and memorable.When biographies lack images, not only are articles left unread, but entire narratives are left untold. Faces remain unseen, and the essence of individuals' lives is not fully captured. Each image has the potential to ignite curiosity, evoke empathy, and connect us on a deeper level with the lives of those we seek to learn about.
  • This project is aimed at enriching Wikipedia biographies of Nigerian individuals with captivating images. Nigeria stands among the countries with a scarcity of visual content in biographies, and with the ongoing Wiki Unseen campaign, there's an opportunity to make a significant impact. By hosting this project in Nigeria for the first time, we aim to empower local editors to contribute high-quality images to Nigerian biographies, thereby enhancing the representation and visibility of notable Nigerians on the world stage

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings? in just a day wikipedia event, with edithaton lasting for just a month we aim at Introducing Wikipedia Overview to new recruits, Wikipedia's mission, community guidelines, and the importance of adding images to articles.

Also Understanding Image Licensing, Explanation of different types of licenses for images because mosts of the pictures uploaded will be getting lincesing from owners and how to choose and upload appropriate ones on Wikipedia. Step-by-step guidance on how to upload images to Wikimedia Commons.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

Enhancing Public Engagement: Our strategy involves providing information about the upcoming event and editathon to both existing members and new members through electronic flyers and primarily the Wikipedia past event WhatsApp platforms. This outreach initiative is designed to maintain continuous awareness among participants about the event.

During the Event: We will ensure participants stay informed about the event details by sending official emails, recognizing that some participants rely solely on this communication method. This proactive approach aims to prevent anyone from missing out on important event updates. 4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals. (NOTE: all experienced Wikimedia editors MUST endorse your proposal as proof of availability)

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

participants will be encouraged to bring their smartphone, tablet, or laptop to the event. This will allow them to easily upload pictures to Wikipedia during the event and for the edithtaton. By using their devices, they can directly contribute to enriching Wikipedia's visual content.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

Engagement on the community platform: we will engage our participants during and after the event through our social media platforms and share other activities going-on in the wikimedia community.

Contest: we aim at emphasizing on rewards after the contest for self driven motivation, where there will be a contest for three weeks and participants will be awarded prizes for contributing to the local contest.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

As we continue to strive for excellence in documenting the rich history and culture of Nigeria on Wikipedia,emphasis on the importance of incorporating photographs into Nigerian biographies.

Photographs have a unique power to bring stories to life and connect readers with the individuals and events being described. By adding photographs to Nigerian biographies, we not only enhance the visual appeal of these pages but also create a more immersive experience for visitors.

the addition of photographs can significantly increase visitor engagement with Wikipedia pages. People are naturally drawn to visual content, and having compelling images can encourage more individuals to visit and explore Nigerian biographies on Wikipedia. This increased traffic not only benefits the visibility of Nigerian history and culture but also contributes to the overall growth and relevance of the Wikimedia community in Nigeria.

Also,incorporating photographs into Nigerian biographies can help showcase the diversity and richness of Nigerian heritage. Whether it's portraits of influential figures, images of significant historical events, or snapshots of everyday life, these photographs serve as invaluable assets in preserving and sharing Nigeria's cultural legacy with the world.

He will be training editors on how to contribute to the project goal through Wikicommom and Wikipedia
