From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Project summary[edit]

Briefly summarize your project proposal. Every Christmas and New Year in Nigeria, especially in the South-East, there are cultural fiestas and the homecoming of the sons and daughters of every community. It is no wonder that some communities and families tag it "mass return" expecting their children all over the world to come home for one celebration or the other. It is also the time of the year for festivities like ima mmanwu, igba mmanwu, igbu odu, chieftaincy titles, traditional marriage, burial, churching, birthdays, town union meetings, outing ceremonies, among others, etc. It is a time for peace accord. Wikimedia values cultural heritage and norms and emphasizes it with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), thus, the need to capture these rare occasions in photos during Christmas and New Year celebrations. These will be uploaded in the January meet-up of the Wikimedia Anambra Network, where the modalities for 2024 strategies will also be discussed.

Thus this application is a dual activity of Wikicommons cum Meet-up for Wikimedia Anambra Network. The members of the Network will come together to analyze the Christmas and New Year events in their communities. They will upload pictures and have interactive sessions on the way forward for 2024.

This is a really wonderful initiative, I’m sure it will impact so much in the Wikimedia space. Sayvhior (talk) 20:33, 4 January 2024 (UTC)

  • Strong support Strong support: The project idea is a good one as it will tell stories of our culture and festivals. The project would provide valuable images to compensate the already existing articles without images in Wikipedia spaces, breed a community of fresh wikicommon volunteers, showcase the beauty of cultural diversity and bring great visibility to the South-East festive events. Obuezie (talk) 20:55, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
  • Strong support Strong support: Nobody will tell our stories better than we do. Thosr beautiful culture and festivals of ours, especially during the Xmas and other festive periods need all the publicity they can get. We are rich and blessed, so the world should tap from us, only when we give them what to tap from, and in turn impact the Wikimidia immediate host network positively, that's the reason for the project. It is worth it. I give my full support.Goodymeraj (talk) 21:24, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
  • Strong support Strong support The project is quite commendable. We have so many cultural activities we carry out during Christmas and other festivals. It is necessary to publish them on Wiki space for global access and use.PassionateLibrarian(talk) 10:08, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
