Grants:Wikimedia UG Nigeria Grants/Wikimedia User Group Nigeria Community Support Fund/Wikipedia Awareness for Nigerian Institute of Journalism
Project summary
[edit]Briefly summarize your project proposal.
- To create awareness about Wikipedia and its sister projects among the students of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism. We now have a new set of students; the old ones have graduated. The media is critical to the success of articles on Wikipedia. It is important to educate communication students about the importance of Wikipedia for human existence. Without the media, we can not have accurate information on Wikipedia. To ensure the information system is balanced, we need the media to understand and accept Wikipedia and know how to report from a reliable source, which is the power and strength of Wikipedia (the reliability of information in the encyclopedia from a reliable source). So it is key for us to keep educating communication students, who will invariably become the media men and women of tomorrow, on how to write on Wikipedia and the importance of Wikipedia.
